Thank you guys! I agree too that this kind of quiet installation is PUP. It's hideous and thank you for the explanation.

NBA League Pass also used Octoshape last year. Aside from the P2P angle, I was disturbed by the fact that non-Admin users could install it on locked down system. Even though they didn't have admin rights, it would still appear in the Add/Remove programs dialog, which I thought was an area protected from standard users.

So I get what you guys are saying here.. I have a slightly different perspective. I work for a pretty conservative financial institution.
This solved my corporate streaming issue.. It worked perfectly in all my remote offices and got the video to our desktops without me having to plan for it.. These big news events usually blow me up. I mean that was pretty impressive. I got through the election and Inauguration without a hitch. I am actually trying to contact them to do my webcasts.
The install dialog says clearly grid delivery, again it doesn't feel "sneaky" or "quiet" to me. 2 clicks feels pretty significant.
The EULA comes up if you press yes, so tiny itsy bitsy is a bit dramatic.. It seems pretty clear and up front to me. You can't install it that I can tell without seeing the EULA
About the admin thing.. It is an Adobe plug in.. Adobe must have done some pretty serious hammering on the thing.. I doesn't make sense that they would take any big risks with flash player.. I mean they are masters at the install right.. I wouldn't expect anything else.
I just don't see this as the standard p2p software.. it feels much more real and serious to me with companies like cnn, nba, adobe etc.. maybe I am crazy.

Our executives were initially concerned about the P2P nature also. The security team here did an audit after the CNN election coverage and ultimately allowed it to be deployed. Subsequently, our team contacted Octoshape requesting a silent installer such that we could distribute automatically to our desktops with altiris. We have been pleased with its performance in our corporate environment as well.

Does this require a change in firewall rules for it to work successfully? Assume that all ports other than port 80 are closed.

It worked for us with just 80 open.. when we got the silent installer they gave us this URL to test that.
