I highly recommend anything by Trondheim, who did Mister O. His "Dungeon" is a very funny, twisted take on the standard fantasy dungeon/hero motif.
"The Fly", which I haven't read, is another wordless piece by him. Supposed to be quite good.
Trondheim is an interesting comic artist. He is a member of the Oubapo, a comics off-shoot of the Oulipo.
For what it's worth, the Oulipo is still around, other well known members include the American Harry Mathews and Frenchman Jacques Roubaus.
Matt Madden, a comic artist from NYC, does comics that work within the same milieu ( mattmadden.com ).
