The movie Smoke from several years ago featured a store owner who took a picture of his store every day from the same corner at exactly 8:00. The idea was that different people passed by each day, so the shots were a little different.

It also held the idea of a record of time passing in ways that you can't tell from only looking at something only once every few years.

I assume he took his idea from this movie.
