Gravatar hahahah, this post has me totally in stitches. you ARE a craft addict! i think that you made a great first step in the effort to curb your addiction: getting away from your computer. i'm sure it was tough, but you're a strong girl. now... go out there and spin something instead!

Gravatar ah, a fellow craft addict! There's nothing wrong with having too many interests - it's the whole time thing I had a problem with.

I used to do everything under the sun, then I gradually got myself so addicted to knitting, that I didn't need any other crafts anymore. It's kinda like dating - you look around, try a few out - then one day, you meet the ONE and your more organized and your closet gets cleaner without all the necessary junk and your wallet....well, your wallet still suffers.

Gravatar Recognizing that there is a problem is the first step - and you seem to be doing that! ;o)

I have the same problem - I have tons of stuff for tons of different crafts spread out all over the house because when I decide that I like something, I go all in :o)

(so if you decide to try cake decorating let me know, k? I have 1/2 a room of stuff...)

Gravatar It sounds so familiar to me!! I unfortunately do have the stuff to make candles (also started it as a kid and kindly left my stuff at my moms hous when I moved out, which was a good thing really!), and most of the other stuff you mentionned!

The problem with me is that I go in periods of addiction. Right now it's fiber. As for the stats of my stash I'm hoping this addiction won't go away, but I do hope to find energy again for all my other crafts!

Is it unhealthy? I don't think so. I love being crafty, it gives me joy, and it's better then spending your money on drugs. Then again, people ask me why I don't save. Unfortunately I've seen to much young people around me die and I decided I want to enjoy my money now and not when I'm death!

Have fun, and there are ways to do this a lot cheaper (the candle making). Just let me know if you want to know how I used to do it! :D

Love!

Gravatar way to catch yourself. online shopping is difficult for me. in person, i can at least walk around with the item in question and after about an hour of browsing, i put it back. when it comes to yarn? forgetaboutit! i don't even flinch sometimes when i drop $50+ on sock yarn. JUST sock yarn. don't even get me started on all the fat quarters, thread, sewing patterns, beads, hardware, needles, embroidery floss, and sketching materials i've purchased in the last three months.
dude, if you're gonna start a club, i'm definitely a member.

Gravatar Thank GAWD you stopped yourself. I made the same mistake you did and ended up spending INSANE amounts of money on candlemaking stuff. It's not as easy as it looks because all fragrance oils need to be "tested" with different wicks and different waxes. Even the DYE could affect how the candle burns and the scent throw.

Try burning these and see how far the scent carries and if the candle burns to the edges, overflows and blah blah. If you like it, and they work well, I suggest you ask your friend if it'd be ok for her to tell you exactly which wax she uses, which wick and what type of FOs. At least this way you will waste the least amount of money on testing.

Funny, I just sent off all of my candlemaking supplies including some soap supplies to my friend in FL to sell off on ebay for me. I closed my business earlier this year due to family problems...but I digress.

You should try making soap from scratch!! Lye soap that is! SOOO much fun. Check out my old site - www.rosi-g.com.

Gravatar hi...my name is erin..., and I am right with you.

Gravatar I'm the same way. Every year for the holidays it's a new thing.

Gravatar I do the same thing when I discover something I really like. I guess a lot of it depends on for one thing...if you can afford it...and secondly if you think there is a good chance you will stick with it. Then there is always the time thing too....do you have time for another hobby?

Gravatar LOL! I dabbled in candle making a few years back, and what a mess! I loved my candles, but moved away from that, as I have done with sooooo many other crafty things now I'm monogamous with the knitting and spinning. Although, I'm tempted to get my lace-making items shipped out to me, and I keep looking at sewing machines online (but I do *need* it for some of my knitted items). Well done on stopping yourself - you should be proud- really!

Gravatar I'm the same way. When I like something I go all the way LOL

Gravatar I have just been going through a similar thing. I want to try so many things right now! And I've got so many half-finished projects hanging around.
I'd maybe find a Michaels or some craft store near you and browse there. Buy some small amounts, enough for a few more candles, and see if you still enjoy it.

Gravatar ya did good, kid.

Gravatar I would not have turned it off...and I say that because I've been getting into candle making myself and it's driving me mad that I can't do MORE of it.

I say go for it...it's fun, it makes you happy, and you can make your money back on it.

Gravatar Like the others, I guess it depends on finances and time. If you can afford to buy the stuff and you've got the time to work with it then I don't think there's anything wrong with playing around with something new.

Gravatar as much as i hate to admit it, you made the right choice. let's take a deep breath and repeat after me: i have enough hobbies. i have enough hobbies!

honestly, tho, i feel the same way. i'd love to quilt, but i have to stop somewhere!

sorry you weren't at the point last night!

Gravatar I think you did the right thing... But those are pretty candles!

Gravatar Been there, done that.
I'm afraid I am a bit of an enabler, so I'd rather not comment on what I think you should do. . .

Gravatar Congrats on the stopping to think about it! I rarely do that in time!

Gravatar Just.
Say.
No.
From one collector/addict to another, don't even go down that road. Spend the "candle" time using up some of the yarn or fiber. Go make some jewelry. Remember, "jack of all trades, master of none."
Focus.
You can do it.

Gravatar I hear you!!! I have a bunch of rooms full of stuff also! It is so hard not to get really into something and get a ton of stuff for it only to find about 6 other outlets for your craftiness too!

maybe you should do a "use the craft stash" type of thing and see if you are really still interested in some of the older stuff you used to do....

Gravatar I am very proud of you for stopping yourself baby!! Remember the first step is admitting that you have a "problem". By the way, why don't you make some more jewelry, I need some coordinating necklaces and earrings...Love you!! MOM

Gravatar Such an impressive display of willpower! I say wait a week or two and if you are still yearning to make candles, go for it. If the urge passes, then you made the right choice.

Gravatar Oooh, that's a tough question. There are just so many things to do / make and not enough time. I tend to lean towards having a few hobbies but being reallyreally good at them - or obsessed, depending on your point of view ;o)

Gravatar heh... what was your cart total? I love your mom's comment... compliment and redirect... very nice

Gravatar Marie, this is hilarious! But I understand--it is only my bank account balance, not my willpower, that has kept a loom out of my hands. There's always that unspoken possibility in a new craft... this could be The One! Oh, wow, I guess it is like dating, huh?

Gravatar If you want a really good hobby try marcome. And if you need supplies, I'll stock you with all my goodies. you know because it's a useful hobby.

no, not really.

Maybe you need to be in a craft club. We could start one.

Gravatar Beautiful candles. Glad you managed to step away from the slippery slope

Gravatar Hi, my name is Marsha and I'm a craftaholic! The thing is that us crafty types say to ourselves - "I could make that cheaper" which in many cases is true. The bottomline though, is that those of us with a true addiction are really just addicted to the acquisition of all the supplies and the gadgets to make that stuff. Truth be told, we should stick to what we have and just pay the full price for the stuff from another crafter. When I think of all the money I could have in the bank account waiting for retirement if I had invested that money instead of wasting it on another new hobby!!

Gravatar Yeah, no, I have't made candles yet...but...I think I'm going to have to run to the craft store now:o)

Gravatar Watch out! Soap will be next. LOL

Gravatar Everything is beautiful! Can you tell me the technique of the jewelry, I'd like to try something similar. I was looking at precious metal clay is that what you used? Thanks
