i am so sorry for your loss! doug sounds like an amazing cat, and it sounds like he had a great life, full of love.
How beautiful that you took time off to be with him and was with him until he went naturally....so sad, but yet, you were so fortunate. I hope your hearts heal soon, and someday make room for a new cat, you can shower with love. This is so strange, my last post on my blog is about how cats love us.

I just ran across this and wanted to give you my condolances.
My 18-year-old cat passed away on July 10th. He had been sick for years and we were scared that we would one day have to make the decision to put him to sleep. I was lucky that I had taken the day off and was home when he started having difficulty breathing. We rushed him to the vet where they were waiting for him. He passed away within minutes of our arrival, but he made it there and if there had been something they could have done for him, they could have done it. I totally understand your statement about your cat knowing how to take care of you even with his last act.

I took a blog break this summer and am just reading this. I'm sorry your sweet little kitty is gone. How lovely that he passed on his own- tough decisions are no fun to make.
