I would suggest one other long-term approach to the problem: Bring back married tax-relief. You, yourself, provide an excellent example of the advantages of a married family in which the father takes on his responsibilities. Married families, I suggest, cost the state a fraction of the cost of single-parent families, so why shouldn't they give us back some of our own money?
Everyone seems mystified as to where this comes from, but does nobody remember the tango adverts? The ones with the orange baby coming up and smacking you in the face? Sounds suspiciously close to me.
Will people in Texas and Florida begin 'Happy Shootin' in response to being 'happy slapped'?

To Katie: Tango ad... possibly. Then again you could also point to Jackass or Dirty Sanchez. I'm sure they don't help but on the whole, I don't like blaming the media. People need to take reponsibility for their own actions.
To David: Thanks for the compliment. I agree that family tax breaks would help.
What I can't get my head around in todays society is the need to find blame in anywhere but the most obvious place (society is to blame, my teachers were to blame, blah blah blah). Then you get the "do gooders". "We need to understand why these kids are doing this". In other words, cure all the problems in the world and these kids will mgically turn out good.
Bollocks. The simple lesson is:
Rights -> Responsibility
Action -> Accountibility
Zero tolerance.
I think the first thing we should do is not giving these hooligans the attention they are getting now. The news has crossed the see to the Netherlands and the first "Happy Slappin'" has taken place here too.
I hope some day these happy slappers take on an ax EU champion kickboxing by accidant. Lets see how happy they will be afterwards.
