I walked as an undergrad, but that was because I was nearly 30 and it meant a lot to me. I didn't walk for my MFA, and if I ever do a PhD, I won't be walking for that either. Graduation ceremonies ought to be covered by the Geneva Conventions.

This is a difficult choice, and, if it were me I would probably go for the Roky. The beer is better, the entertainment value is much higher, and no gown is required. Perhaps you should just send a life-size cardboard cutout to Albuquerque in your place.

I haven't walked since high school, and I saw Roky at ACL when I was there. Honestly, it was a good show, but I've seen much better.
On the one hand, Roky isn't the be-all end-all of shows, but it's rare. On the other hand, graduation ceremonies are unimportant, but unique in one's lifespan (per degree).
Graduation ceremonies are boring, but you only get one chance to attend your own for your PhD (usually). Roky Erickson shows are fairly entertaining and rare, but in the Austin area come up maybe once every 1-2 years.
It's a toss-up, I'm no help. Sorry.

Go see Mr. Erickson. Surely the show will be better than sitting around in a dress for a couple of hours listening to boring speeches? Looks like a no-brainer to me.
