Gravatar Since economics trumps all politics, I SERIOUSLY doubt that Bush and America needs anything from Latin America more than the other way around. Without the US market and US immigration reality, what would the impact be on Latin America? Brazil has to find a way to get their economy going organically as they have failed to become the regional economic power they have so often been forecasted to be. What of corruption, investment, education, and technological advances?

Gravatar One of the NPR programs made the point that Bush wanted Lula to be the anti-Chavez, so they considered him at least that way, but there was, as you say, no discussion of what Bush's trip meant to Lula or Brazilians beyond the protests, even-on-npr.
