I'm not too sure what the Emmys track, but it's pretty clearly not excellence in whatever field the particular award honors. Although I do get a kick out of Family Guy (because I'm very easily amused) I agree wholeheartedly that it doesn't hold a candle to prime Simpsons or South Park. Maybe Seth MacFarlane has compromising pictures of the nominating committee or something.

I have never gotten the Family Guy thing. Maybe it's just the episodes I've caught, but each one seemed to be filled with not-remotely-funny jokes that were dragged out too long. Maybe i've just seen particularly awful episodes, but no show should leave you saying, "um, this joke wasn't funny for the first 5 seconds - continuing it for 85 more seconds won't suddenly reveal its hilarity."
