I've only seen parts of "The Big Country", and they're the ones with Gregory Peck. Did Heston ruin that film too?

I don't like Heston, but I could never imagin Planet of the Apes without him.

"Planet of the Apes" is pretty classic. Ol' Chuck set the bar for hard-bitten cynicism in that one.
Other than that, meh. He seemed to swing between wooden and histrionic, and was definitely not a big believer in subtlety.
Still, I've still never seen "Ben-Hur" or "El Cid" and feel like I must be missing out.
The real question is who will lead the NRA rally at the site of the next school shooting?

I gather you never saw the Richard Lester version of The Three Musketeers.

You don't want to watch "Touch of Evil" again? What the Hell is wrong with you?

Nil nisi bonum and all that, but wouldn't Touch of Evil have been a better movie if Vargas had been played by an actor?

Anonymous is probably right. I actually really like Touch of Evil, but I also recognize that it's kind of a bad movie, in no small part b/c of Heston.

Although I enjoy Planet of the Apes, Touch of Evil, and Ben Hur, my favorite C. Heston Moment comes from The 10 Commandments, when he commands: "Pharoah, let my people go!"
It's been very hard for me to keep a straight face in a synagogue ever since; I'll be going through the service, grooving on the cantor, or trying to keep my kid from doing anything too disruptive, and then I'll read something and remember C. Heston as Moses, and it's all over.
Also, I think Phil Hartman did more to puncture the legacy of C. Heston than anyone else, emphatically including Michael Moore, whose cheap shot ambush of the man is in no way mitigated by the fact that Heston, politically speaking, was a horse's ass from way back.
