what the hell? are you trying to con us?
a) it's an article from asimov's science fiction
b) according to my 3rd grade science, elements cannot "go extinct"- they are the most basic building blocks of matter, do not get broken down any further and therefore will always exist
c) yes okay elements can be transmuted by using vast amounts of energy to knock off their protons. so maybe we're losing all the stuff we're putting into the nuclear reactors. by that same token though we can always make more using those same nuclear reactions

Regardless of where the article was published, the points are legitimate and have been made in many places.
As far as elements going "extinct," any reading of either my post or the original clearly states that they don't literally disappear from the face of the earth. Rather, they are so disparate with tiny amounts in millions of industrial productst that there are no longer real supplies of them, thus making them functionally extinct.

sorry you pick out the parts that fit your message i do the same for me. anyway:
a) asimov's is simply not a reputable source. maybe you could post some other links
b) considering the difficulties we face in extracting these elements from millions of tons of crushed rock, i dont think mining them out of millions of tons of trash will be too much more insurmountable
