Gravatar I disagree with giving *The Catcher in the Rye" one star. (Read on, and follow me, now.) The only people who read it these days are poor sophomore English students who are forced to read it by the nostalgic pinings of vintage beatniks in academia. Holden Caufield is the most predicatable, one-dimensional, and static character in American literature. If he were a real person in America today, he would probably be one of those Goth dweebs, dragging around calling himself soemthing like "Golgoth, child of Sorrow" or some other name that would make you want to give him a serious beating. Give the story one star only because Amazon doesn't have a zero star rating.

Now, *The Great Gatsby* is pretty good. It deserves at least three stars. Same for *Lord of the Flies*, which is kind of like literary road-kill - it's weird, but you can't help but look at it.
