The stupidity of this cartoon protest is twofold:

Some small Danish newspaper published the cartoons and you want the entire country punished because of it;

Where were the massive muslim protests around the world when your co-religionists tortured and executed children in Beslan russia?

Where were the massive muslim protests around the world after 9/11?

Where were the massive muslim protests around the world aftrer the London Subway bombings?

Where were the massive muslim protests around the world after the Madrid bombings?

Where were the massive muslim protests around the world after the bali bomings?

Answer? You folks don't give a fuck about anyone unless they're muslim.

Where are the Saudi's, Kuwaiti's, Bahraini's, etc... when it comes to boycotting Israel? Why are they so effective at 'boycotts' now, and for this of all the reasons? Is it because there is a tacit encouragement from the Wahhabi establishment, that the people may let-off some steam? Is it because Denmark is not as strong as the US? Is it because religion is more important than human beings?

How dare they boycott danish products, with ease of mind, but are perfectly at peace with going to Mcdonald's, drinking Coke, and eating Nestle Chocolate bars?

Is a silly cartoon more important than the murder of palestinians, than land theft, than ethnic cleansing? Is it more important than Iraq, Sudan, Uganda, among others?

Gravatar Throughout the history of the United States, the 'Great Melting Pot' immigrants, and those of religions other than Jew or Christian have always initialy been treated as oddities. Also, those immigrants who failed to become part of the 'norm' were shunned and ridiculed. Some of the earliest examples, in the east, were the Irish, Italians, Germans, Blacks and Puerto Ricans. In the west, in was the Asians.
Thus, with the sudden interest in Islam, mostly negativly, due to a few idiots, they are now the Targets DuJour.
Give it a couple of more months, and it'll be somebody else. Look how we were boycotting the French at the early part of this latest conflict. Well, that might be an oxymoron. We've almost always hated the French. But, thats a whole 'nother discussin.

Keep Smiling!

Gravatar ) Ahh flanstein, I have missed your comments, welcome back. Regardless of whether or not I agree, I still appreciate the comments.

Comte: If you look through my archives, you will see where I consistently slag off Muslims for not protesting, you will see your own thought process reflected.

Lou: Thanks.

Gravatar Good Post. So, because I could really give a crap about what happens in the Middle East, I pay attention to very little. I'm kind of ignorant. No. I'm really ignorant. In fact, I'm an ignorant asshole!

Anyway, I read on CNN that an Iranian paper is having a Holocaust Cartoon Contest. Is this as bad as the Muslim Cartoon scandal? Is that acceptable as freedom of speech?

Gravatar No, to me anything that mocks another cultures religion or suffering is absoutely unacceptable. Therefore, any cartoons about the Holocaust are just as unacceptable to me. As far as I am concerned, Iran is certainly the last country that should be sponsoring any type of press contest as they certainly do not have any form of free speech.

You are not an ignorant asshole, you are just like millions of others who know or care very little about the ME. that is ok, some days, I wish I knew or cared little about the ME.

Gravatar Yeah, I guess the Holocaust cartoon thing is to test the Western World's reaction to a "hate" crime.

Which is what they considered the Danes to be guilty of.

Gravatar As you know, Amal, anyone in America explaining the real source of Muslim rage gets attacked from both the right and the left.

This is because the West is schizophrenic about their long bout of imperialism vis a vis the Muslims as well as the Chinese.

WWI and WWII were both interfraternal imperial struggles for power and the right to enslave and steal from poorly armed, divided communities.

It is still ongoing. Any community not armed with nukes or closely allied to a nuclear power willing to fight WWIII is going to be stomped by the Western imperialists.

Gravatar Nice post. Anyone who denies the anger and prejudice underlying the objections on both sides is living in a dream world.

Gravatar Amal, once again you've made your point of view clear in your own unique, eloquent way. I understand the message you are sending.

I have only one thing to add and that is that you mustn't underestimate the underlying fear Westerners feel when they see their embassies and governments threatened by angry mobs of Muslims. It scares me half to death, watching CNN and seeing that! We know, based on what we've been told about the Quran, that depictions of the prophet are prohibited, but we don't understand the insult. To us, it's still just a cartoon. Perhaps a harsh one, but still just a cartoon. To see such anger, such outrage based on a mere drawing is just beyond us.

P.S. I did not get your email. Where did you send it?

Gravatar Sorry Amal, but your religion has been hijacked. I think I mentioned to you before that I grew where Muslims coexisted very well with Christians and Hindus. The non-Muslim world is learning about Islam via the fanatics. Even in the recent cartoon protests, the extremism came out, with ordinary people going extreme to express their displeasure. If more Muslims were like you, they'd express their displeasure in peaceful ways.

This is not about religious intolerance. It's about intolerance. Muslim intolerance for a world where every god can be ridiculed and made fun of; intolerance by the rest of the world for Muslims who wish to have their values imposed on others. How is Muhammed different from Jesus? or Krishna? Both Jesus and Krishna can be made fun of, without the mass hysteria or murder.

You know what? People are afraid of Muslims now. People are afraid of the religion. How did that ever happen? Why was it allowed to happen? The violent cartoon protests only accomplishes one thing: it makes people more afraid. This is not the Muslim religion I grew up with.

Gravatar I read your response about some of the comments above ... and I understand where you stand. And I agree, to some degree -- but I value free speech and freedom of expression. Even those who deny the holocaust, have the right to do so.
