Yes, the events in Lebanon this past summer a huge foreign policy blunder by the west. Why is it that western governments get involved in trying to bring peace to the Middle East? Why no let them sort it out for themselves?

Yes we are held hostages by both Israel and Hezbollah...
But I hope that sanity comes back to Nasrallah soon and he frees us!
I fail to see why Hezbollah is anymore entitled to carry weapons when his weapons did nothing to save us from total destruction. Quite the contrary. They brought the destruction upon us.

Nasrallah has a sense of entitlement because he operates under the guise of religion, which, in his mind, makes him automatically superior to anyone else, including the Lebanese in their own country.
It is truly amazing how these so-called clerics corrupt Islam for their own ends. Mohammad would pray for hell to rain down on them all if he were here to witness this.

You know the old adage, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend?" Its an often used tool by national security planners, but unfortunately the road to geopolitical hell is paved with examples where the friend blew up in the allied country's face. Needless to say, it's a very shortsgighted political tactic.

HI Amal! Thanks for visiting my site and commenting.
I wanted to comment on some of the things you have written in your post that I enjoyed reading.
First of all, you're right that the US has defended some regimes and then turned around years later and ended up against them. THe US seems to go after what it considers "in its best interest" at the time. FOr example, you brought up the fact that the US aided the Taliban fighting off the Soviets. That is because at that time there was such a big Communism paranoia in our country. Throughout the Cold War and up until the fall of the Soviet Union, there was this huge paranoia that the COmmunists were going to come and take over the country and maybe world. The US saw itself trying to stop the spread of Communism, and by keeping them out of Afghanistan, it was one of the steps they took. They felt like they were doing this by aiding the Afghans fight them off. THey never should have just abandoned the country for the Taliban to take over afterwards. But of course after several Al-Quaeda attacks, which reached its peak on 9/11, the US had to go in after them. the whole point is that the US will be in bed with some regimes (like the Saudis right now) if it feels like it is in its best interest, and until it feels it isn't in its best interest anymore. But I think most countries are like that.
Another thing is that I really find it hard to believe that anyone REALLY believed that this cease-fire against Israel and Hezbollah would really stop or Iran or Hezbollah. As much as the rest of the world pressured them to stop fighting, I really think they know better. Everyone pretty much knows that the fighting will start back up again and everyone pretty much knows that Hezbollah is only going to rearm and probably come back stronger next time, like you stated. I think that The Powers That Be just had to do something. they couldn't simply let the fighting continue without at least looking like they weren't attempting diplomacy. After all, isn't that what the UN, as ineffective as they are, is supposed to be for in the first place? Now they can stick their chests out a bit and feel like they achieved something - unitl the next round picks back up. My point is that even though they seem to claim that they have stopped the fighting, I don't think that the UN or the US or anyone else who has followed the crisis in the ME really believes that anything has changed with this cease-fire.

How true. These guys are certainly going to hell. All the lives lost for their ego-maniac pseduo-religious war.
