You're right...I'm not "chastising" you. : ) Just pointing out that so many things somehow seem to conspire against life, even when well-intentioned.

I told my minion to go vote.
Okay, he's not a minion, he's part-time IT help (college student). And I didn't tell him how to vote, just to go.
He said he probably won't go because he's too lazy. If he's indicative of 18-25 year olds (and he probably is) expect a low turnout from that demographic, just like every election.

I am hopeful, too, but I do not think Fr. Jonathan is right on this. I think if the Dems get in with a majority of both houses, they will quickly mount a borg-like "resistance is futile" mentality and go as far as they possibly can with their agenda while they have time. And place legal roadblocks and/or booby traps for the Republicans when they get kicked out, to make it difficult if not impossible to undo what they did, so the Republicans will stumble and look incompetent.
I don't see them abandoning their atheistic-nietzschean-freudean-marxist-
narcissistic-eugenic agenda any time soon. That's their base. It represents about half of their support. They will do all in their power to solidify their base and redouble their efforts to sway the independent and "moderate" voters.
All they care about it getting power to oppress their rivals. They don't care if they win big or not, or win by smaller margins than they ought.

A friend commented that while Obama winning would be bad on so many levels, so so many levels, the one "good" that might come of it is the backlash when every wakes up and finds over 50% of their pay check gone, our boarders invaded, moral fiber even more under attack-and the average American who was struck dumb by his idiotic meaningless transfixing "speeches" will wake up and go "oh no-nu-uh. this is NOT what I signed up for. no. Way."
One can only hope.
Well, then again. We can always hope. Folks, don't forget that even if Obama wins, the Lord is still the Lord. In the end, He will wins. We can hope in that.

Oh, I agree jenb! The next four years would acutally be a better time for the Republicans to assess just who their base is and solidify it, and then work on getting the "moderates" and independents. What Fr. Jonathan said about the Democrats is exactly what the Republicans should do, and purify their political principles and hammer away at it.
And if they want to know who their base is: Church-going Christians. They really can't become the Christian party if they want to expand their base, but they at least have to realize who their base is!

I'd leave Nietzsche out of that assessment.
A real Nietzschean wouldn't bother participating in this farce called democracy.

No, you can't say that and leave me without details.

I'd like to share Father Jonathan's optimism. But regardless of the majority, the first few months of the Obama Administration will use the James Brown hit, "The Big Payback," as the theme. Let the zealots propose law after law, precept after precept, non-stop abortions, Fairness Doctrine, etc. But I see the Messiah tangling early and often with Pelosi and Reid, hankering to use him as Imperial Rubber Stamp. Then again, Jabberin Joe did predict a major international incident early in the dance. Methinks at bottom Obama's nothing but an Empty Suit and will fold like one- in one crisis after another. Meanwhile, Sarah in 2012- with a leaner, meaner, moderate-free GOP behind her. Unless of course she becomes Vice President, of course.

Anonymous, I think real Nietzscheans would run for office and participate in the process as part of their Will to Power: To cripple the government with respect to impediments to exercising their power, and to control it as a tool for their own power to crush their opponents. Besides, it's not pure Nietzscheanism, but mixed with other things, because people do not crave power only, but also pleasure and material wealth.
