At least two of the men you claim to be Archimandrites are actually bishops. You can tell by the way they're dressed. Perhaps you need more information in discerning Archimandrites for your readership.

Gravatar the first I might be wrong on - sorry.

the second is an icon and I presume I'm right.

the third I'm jokingly calling a "whole group of Archimandrites" - but at least one clearly is.

the fourth one is an altar boy. I hope no one believed I was claiming he was an Archimandrite.

(thanks for keeping me honest)

Gravatar The individual in the first picture is Bishop Nikolai of Sitka. The second would be a Coptic icon (I'm not sure on whom it depicts).

Archimandrite vestments are no different from that of priests, except, I believe, they may be allowed to wear the black mantle (uh, I think the Western equivalent is the cope) =)

Actually, there are "mitered archimandrites" in the Eastern Orthodox and Catholic traditions. I imagine that that's just another honorific, but that would add another difference in vesture. According to this article, the Rt. Rev. Robert Taft, SJ, is a mitered archimandrite:

Here is a picture of a (presumably Latin) monsignor receiving the miter and title of "Mitered Grand Archimandrite" (!) from the Melkite Greek Catholic Patriarch:

Gravatar wow, very nice responses. Thank you!

Do I understand it right that I have several Easten-rite Catholics reading the blog?
