I love that name.
Is it, "John Paul the Great, Catholic University"?
Is it, "John Paul, the Great Catholic University"?
Or, it is, "John Paul The Great Catholic, University"?
So many possibilities, and hopefully a great school.

I took my first drug-test as a civilian in that building. After I got out of the Navy, I took a job with a chip manufacturer, and had to take my pre-employment urinalysis there.
Creepy! (I passed, of course.)

JP Great is the nickname for the school.
I interviewed the president of the school last summer, Derry Conolly, and hope to make the interview available via podcast soon.

Interesting. I just heard on NPR's Religion podcast about the founder of Domino's who is establishing a new Catholic university near Naples, Florida. It will be called Ave Maria University. He's also building a whole town around the university. They mentioned that it will be the first Catholic university founded in the U.S. in 40 years... I guess there are going to be two now.

Actually the Legion of Christ opened a university last year in Sacramento, California, with the happy blessing of local Bishop Weigand.
Read about it:

AND, Monaghan, "the pizza guy," already opened Ave Maria College in Ypsianti, MI. He just moved it over to Florida.
Southern Catholic College opened in Dawsonville, GA this year.
Thomas Aquinas College in Ojai, CA opened up about 34 years ago.
But I guess these are all colleges as opposed to universities.
Also, Bishop Olmstead wants a college in Phoenix and there is one opening up in Wyoming. They have the land already.

The primary purpose of an LC school is recruitment:
"43.That is why I am sorry to see that our schools and universities do not fulfill their primary goal: the expansion of the Regnum Christi, and especially the recruitment of leaders and vocations to the Legion and to the Consecrated Life of the Movement.
344. Allow me to take advantage of this exceptional opportunity the General Chapter has offered me to once again insist on this: the meaning and goals of our schools - like all apostolic work of the legion and the Movement - must not be worn down by operating solely as teaching facilities. They will not accomplish their true goal in God’s plan for us if they do not bring a large number of students, parents, family members of students and teachers into Regnum Christi.
I have said it many times: for us these schools serve primarily as an open means of recruitment and of the recruitment of leaders."
Fr. Maciel (LC General Chapter)
