Wow! This is about the first time I see a (non-schismatic, that is) Bishop wear Pontifical Gloves. I daresay it looks good...
And of course you are right about the ring - but imagine: probably the ring is made to fit the gloveless hand. It would probably be quite hurtful to force it on a gloved finger...

I hate to say it, but it looks like the caption for this picture should be, "Oh, dear--excuse me." What did His Eminence eat for lunch? :-D

Though even I know the ring should be worn over the gloves...
Good point. They used to make pontifical rings with a spring-like device so that they could fit over the gauntlets, as well as on the ungloved hand.

They're not uncommon in Pontifical Masses celebrated by prelates in communion with the Holy See. Our current Holy Father wore them when he was a cardinal for this Pontifical Masses at Le Barroux and at Wigratzbad.

I should have said, "They're not uncommon in Pontifical Masses celebrated in the Traditional Rite by prelates in communion with the Holy See."

Well, I've attended a Traditional Pontifical Mass (or, as we in Germany sometimes say, a "Ponti-Show") only once...
