Oh well, this is what you get for electing monks into Cardinals...
Cardinal-Designate O'Malley might be a lot of things, but a monk he is certainly not.
Franciscans, like their Dominican brethren, are mendicant friars. Monks are something completely different.

Well, actually, if we want to be picky, O'Malley is a Capuchin friar... but luckily for both of us I was just making a joke that I thought would be facilitated by using the word "monk" which I believe better captures the spirit of the lifestyle O'Malley projects to the modern world.
Next time I'll include an extended qualification whenever I intend to use a word in a non-technical sense.
Thank you for pointing out my horrid and heinous error.

It's good that Cardinal Designate Sean (O'Malley) has sufficient humility to wish to be called by his baptismal name rather than "Your Eminence." However, I'm sure there will be many who will call him by that exalted title against his wishes...And Franciscan spirituality has a lot to offer to the world so the Pope has demonstrated excellent taste in deciding to elevate Sean O'Malley to the rank of Cardinal...
