Gravatar I am intrigued to hear that only recently the Compendium has been published in America.

Here in Brazil an unusually well conceived edition of the Compendium(containing pictures of paintings, etc) was released in paperback by the Jesuit "Edições Loyola" Publishing House - holder of the copyright in Brazil on behalf of Libreria Editrice Vaticana - with the approval of the Brazilian National Conference of Bishops, whitin less then two months from the promulgation of the Motu proprio for the publication of the Compendium.

Was there any special reason for such a delay in the publication of the Compendiumby the USCCB?

Gravatar I happen to think (or hope?) that it's also a good gift for the Candidates' sponsors! I'm awaiting my copy and a copy for hubby's sponsor.

Gravatar The German version was released last year, during WYD in Cologne. Actually, I got it as a thankyou present for volunteering (though it is only a paperback, with b/w pictures).
But I have to agree: It is a great Catechism (though in no way a full substitute to the real thing...)

Gravatar My guess for the delay in the U.S.A. was a fight about translating:
"Correct Politically" versus "Correct Translationally".
.

Gravatar yeah, Fr. Stephanos hits the nail on its head... I think the delayed Compendium release is a real sore eye for the USCCB.

I mean, come on guys, it's not that hard to do a translation. What's taking so much time if it ISN'T bickering about objective translation vs. the one wording you WANT to see used?!
