Gravatar What we need is a Trent style rebuttal of Martini´s errors!

Gravatar I notice that the Bishop of Cremona in his interview in the Chiesa column notes that he AGREES with Martini on all but two points. The condom/AIDS point is NOT one of the two points of disagreement.

I don't agree with the Bishop of Cremona, mind. But when he's asked to comment on this controversial issue he refuses to deal with it as a moral question and punts. He presents it as a "pastorally OK (and assumedly morally benign)/but no public endorsement for fear of the consequences" issue:

"Q: Another controversial point is the condom as a “lesser evil.”

A: “Cardinal Martini describes a specific case, that of a married couple in which one of the spouses is sick with AIDS. It is a case in which using a condom as protection from contagion is generally admitted in pastoral practice. But the cardinal remarks, quite opportunely, that the Church does well to insist publicly upon conjugal fidelity and chastity.”"
