I do not think James Carroll is a good commentator on Catholic issues. While I think he writes excellent prose (his autobiography), he is usually off the beaten path when it comes to contemporary moral issues

Oh the British and their fashion gaffes! Sarah, Duchess of York provoked the same level of wrath when she showed up in Houston in November wearing(gasp!)white shoes!!! Any woman of true character knows one does not wear white shoes after Labor Day! They cannot be donned again until the following Easter Sunday.
