Any drug that is strong enough to kill a child can have nothing but dire consequences on the mother.

Actually, this bug is something that can, and does, affect women who've just given birth, miscarried, etc.--it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the pill per se. I really don't think there's much quarter in opposing this on health grounds--the objection must remain moral.

anon - there have been previous studies that do link deaths to the drug... the health risks are not "disputed" at all, just these particular cases.
