Gravatar On a lighter note, I've published my Catholic MLS standings here. I believe we will see how Bishop Wuerl stacks up against Bishop Finn on June 24 at RFK stadium. :)

Gravatar I've posted the following comments elsewhere already.

Wuerl was the editor of "The Teaching of Christ"--an adult catechism that accompanied me into the adult awakening of my faith. I discovered the book as a freshman in college (1976). I read it once a year throughout college and my first years in the monastery. It is the "spirituality-and-faith-formation" book I have most often recommended to people ever since.

Gravatar (My translation of the Vatican statements)

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from pastoral governance of the Archdiocese of Washington (U.S.A.) presented by His Eminence the Most Reverend Lord Cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick, in conformity with canon 401 § 1 of the Code of Canon Law.

The Holy Father has named as Metropolitan Archbishop of Washington (U.S.A.) His Most Reverend Excellency Monsignor Donald W. Wuerl, up to now the Bishop of Pittsburgh.

Gravatar Great job pulling this all together. I hope you'll include it in your roundup. I've got more info on Wuerl over at my site.

Gravatar Thanks Michael, your post is very informative and I've linked to it.

Gravatar Today's Washington Times gave a predictably political viewpoint of the appointment. I don't think they understand that the Church heirarchy is not about power but rather about being the shepherd.
