Gravatar Kasper????

Gravatar I know. I had the same gut reaction. Magister at least tries to make the case...

Gravatar Kasper is right???? What gives????

Gravatar I've never felt comfortable with Kasper, but I can't really say why. I guess he gives me a similar feeling as Karl Rahner.

Gravatar Hi, American Papist,

I couldn't agree more. I think Kasper just got religion. Even more, he just got a real desire to keep his job. Talk about opportunism. He sure wasn't talking this way ten years ago. He came real close to calling Ratzinger "stupid" back then.

Gravatar Actually, I don't really believe Magister. I remember the Vespers at the end of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. When Kasper gave his address at the beginning, Benedict wouldn't even look at him, although he was gracious when everyone else stood to speak or pray. This probably doesn't mean anything, but it really stuck out to me. Those two have fought so much in the past (and if you want to see a superior theologian (B) confront an inferior one (K), read their papers on the universal vs. local churches), that I cannot believe that Benedict really trusts Kasper. Nor should he. God, Kasper makes me sick.

Gravatar I read Magisterīs article and I am not convinced. I believe Kasper only toned down his liberal opinions, but retains them still.

This passage, for instance, contains several points that could be made by the "old Cardinal Kasper" in his attempt to minimize differences between religions, simplify the liturgy to make it more attractive (in his view) even if less reverent, etc.:

Gravatar As an American I can't stop thinking about a friendly little red ghost...
