Well people have said all along that Hezbollah was supported by Iran...
Yeah - but Iran denied it.
What is surprising is that they DID finally admit it. Makes you sort of wonder about all those other emphatic denials issued by Iran in recent years.
Maybe by admitting it, they can use their influence in Hezbollah to gain influence in the peace process with the Israelis. You know, it's like their trump card...

Well, I didn't mean it that way. I know that Iran wants Israel destroyed and all, but what I meant was that Iran can use Hezbollah as leverage, which is what they already seem to be doing.
Iran can use this situation to their advantage. They want geo-policial influence in the Greater Middle East, and everyone knows that they control and influence Hezbollah, so they can use their puppet Hezbollah to their advantage. By admitting it, they COULD force the West to somehow work with Iran in making some sort of compromise.
Now I don't think the West would compromise because it is Israel we are dealing with, but I think that's what Iran is hoping for. Does that clarify things? Sorry if I'm misleading...
Note the govt of Iran's ultimate desire, not only their proximate desires. Persians are good folks, but as one mentioned to me last week, they are currently led by "the man from the crazy place". (By ultimate desires I meant those earthly desires short of the virgin thang...)
Everyone knows that Iran has supplied Hezbollah with arms, this isn't "news".
