Gravatar The Vatican versus the Society of Rev Moon. I don't see why we are worried about modernists. In a generation or two they will all fad away. Groups like the SSPX and others actually believe in their stand and tend to last a lot longer.

Is it at all possible we can consider Vatican II "guidelines" rather than a council. Popes John and Paul: I love you but you really dropped the ball.

Gravatar "Major Schism"? Who will go with him? If anybody does leave the Church for a Moonie the only thing that will come from it is that conservatives will hold an even larger percentage of the body politic.

Gravatar Considering that the men he consecrated (if in fact he did) were already bishops in the Old Catholic "Church", and they didn't bring a lot of people with them in the first place, and that he is associated with the Moonies in the second, all he'll get are freaks and "womanpriests" who will be delighted that an "authentic roman catholic" bishop "ordained" them.

He will at best be a footnote and an embaressment.

I think he may be mad, if so then perhaps not so much guilt will pertain to him, but perhaps even more to those who exploit him.

Gravatar So many posts on Milingo. If only there were a concise, reader-friendly guide on excommunications to guide me...

Gravatar I say it is at least somewhat likely, as those priests who believe in lifting the celebacy rule could follow, along with those already estranged (joining the new "church").

Gravatar While change takes time and may not occur in their lifetimes,I believe that even those priests who want to see the celebracy rule lifted love the Church too much to leave. They are willing to talk about the painful decision between choosing to serve God either through marriage or through ordination. I write this as a woman who would have given up the man I love for God's Church.

Gravatar I wonder if Milingo's ordination was valid. Did he ever intend to be bishop in the sense which is understood by the Catholic Church?

Gravatar Hmm.. He's like the Liberal Lefebvre.

Gravatar I'd like to know what John Paul II was thinking that day. No doubt he's watching to see how his old friend is dealing with today's mess.

Gravatar If it did cause a schism, what exactly would the Church do in such a situation?? Give in and let married priests like they did long ago?

Gravatar I don't think it will cause a schism, but the subject of married priests does need to be addressed in a more enlighted manner than Apb. Milingo. It is too bad that he is perceived so poorly, the subject will not get the respect it deserves.

Gravatar The church has much more mercy than I would have. Like all movements that separate from the church, this one will die.

Gravatar Naaa. No schism goin' 'round here. Just a little prunin'. That's all.
