Not a surprise...Republicans fumble in 2006. Luckily, there is no Catholic political party.

I wouldn't get too depressed. After all, the Dems ALWAYS have the lead according to the Polls going into an election and then promptly lose. I've never been polled because perhaps I work for a living. I think polls almost always over-state Democratic strength. I guess it's to keep up the spirits of the party faithful. Tom

I'm actually surprised it's not a larger swing, but I think the gap will close as the election nears. Kind of reminds me of those who bailed when the priest sex scandals hit the news. Emotions and the lack of common sense basing a decision on the actions of a very few.

What's disturbing is how many swing votes there are. Do so many Americans not have ideals that they stick to?

Sorry to say it, but I think one reason things aren't looking good for DeVos is that he did so abysmally in the first debate. I'm really hoping he does better tonight...

These polls are misleading because it really doesn't matter what the entire country thinks, it only matters what the local voters think. This is not a presidential election. In other words, 10 percent of the people who are voting in this poll might be from Los Angeles and they will only be electing one senator and a handful of congressmen.
That being said, the Dems will probably take over one house of Congress, which fine by me...maybe we can snap the current crowd out of its pro-life apathy.

It does look bad. Maybe a loss will remind Republicans to be conservative next time and not corrupt.

I too am hoping that it is just democrats trying to use polls to sway us not to bother. They always seem to favor the democrats, who then go on to lose. Statistically, it seems odd that if this was contrived, sometimes it would show Republicans in the lead, that would then go on to lose.
I know of many who lost their jobs in the automotive industry, who left the state and found work with no problem. Unfortunately, they are not here to vote.

Between the democrats and the media, one would think that the election was over and results are in.
Don't allow yourselves to be manipulated folks!
Get out and vote next month.

It's all about voter turnout. Most of these people polled won't vote. You need to contact your local Republican Central Committee and see what you can do on election day to get out the Republican vote. Volunteer to drive people, call, hand out leaflets prior to the election, do lit drops at Catholic and conservative protestant churches the Sunday before, etc. Most elections are lost by one or two people per precinct. If you can get those people to the polls, you win.
Everyone: Write your local paper about your favorite pro-life candidate. The swing votes aren't reading this blog.

We all know what these polls are ment to do... tell us how to vote.. The media seems to operate under a premise of "tell them what you want them to think enough times and they will start thinking it" How many times in the past have we seen a Dem favored poll and the Rep. win? Plus look, 622 people polled.. unless they polled 5 folks from different districts, and even then, there is not enough baseline for a valid statistic... too many variables, remember statistics class??

A win for the Dems would be a definite disaster of a house of a congress. Consider any good nominations for the courts or good legislation would be shot down from the get-go.
Pray bfore the Blessed Sacrament this prayer of St. Anthony Mary Claret, "It looks hopeless Lord, but you are all-powerful!", and remind folks to vote and for whom to vote and contribute to pro-life candidates, and put up yard signs, etc.
And consider that the rest of the world would like some relief from the genocidal programs of the USAID. Democrats will ensure that the UN becomes more powerful and that we must obey the UN, rather than our own laws.

Just curious, John Paul II and Benedict XVI have both championed the UN's work in the realm of International Relations. How do you reconcile their opinions of the UN with the negative American view of the UN? I guess the same question could be asked regarding the War in Iraq?

That's not a matter of faith and morals. Catholics need not agree with the popes on every issue, except, of course, the ones where they're infallible.

Shouldn't you need a good reason to disagree with the Popes? It just seems like people brush off the Pope's opinions a little too lightly for my comfort.

In terms of the UN, I have always found it stunning that the Vatican would accord any dignity or respect to an organization which is essentially a kleptocracy, thugacracy, pro-Abortion, pro-Contraception,etc. I think its a real failing on the Vatican's part and shows the Church should remain outside the political realm and stick to its mission of saving souls for Christ (the UN of course, would laugh at that). Never underestimate the Democratic Party's ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. That said, Michigan, and Ohio, Republicans managed to pick weak candidates for governor this year. CEO of Amway, for crying out loud!
