Gravatar Can't say that I am impressed by it either. The "Friend of all Humanity" subtitle seems a bit fluffy, as if JPII was just a giant teddy bear that everyone loved. Move over Saint Francis, now JPII will be "popularized."
The "bosom pigeons" seem a bit odd and overly Disney like too.
The trailer makes it look like a PR campaigne for his cause. Hopefully the actual movie is a bit more factual.
However, I tend to be really turned off by things like this and rock Masses and rapping priests, etc. The harder you try to make the Church look "cool" and "with the times" the more you lame it appears.
I mean, do people want him to be canonized because he was holy, lived and stood up for the Catholic Faith, or just because he was popular?
Just my two cents.

Gravatar Hrmmm... I'm not impressed either. Like Roman Sacristan, a bit too fluffy! And, despite its claims of originality, many of the scenes in the trailer are reminiscent of Karol: A Man Who Became Pope.

Gravatar Well it starts with talking animals. So it's very Disney-esque. And I agree that it is a bit lame.

Gravatar I actually thought it looked pretty good. My only problem was the "friend of humanity" subtitle -- didn't Jesus say something about how the world will hate you because they hated me? Of course, it was "cartoonish", maybe because it was a cartoon. I just hope it portrays Catholic values, namely sacrifice, that made John Paul so great. If it only shows how lovable JPII was, then it deserves to be trashed.

Gravatar Well, it's hard to speak of John Paul II without mentioning that he was much loved. The Talking Animals I can deal with, if they're handled without being too maudlin.
At any rate this has GOT to be a positive answer to that stupid POPETOWN nonsense from Germany. This lovely film is a prayer to cancel out the other's idiocy. Really, are Talking Doves who loved John Paul worse than a papal Enfant
Terrible on a pogo stick?
