I pose a question - might this "obstinantely persevering in manifest grave sin" apply to active homosexuals receiving communion?
I agree, this document is just a start of perhaps a new tide to come.

It is right to first leave it to the conscience of the communicant after correctly given the teaching and the discipline. If the public person continues todefy the church then comunion should be withheld until the person repents.Remember Cardinal Cooke wrote and pleaded with Governor Carey to change his public position on abortion and when he refused Cadinal Cook wrote him and told him to refrain from communion.According to Governor Carey this hit him like a ton of bricks and he came to accept the church's teaching. He also help found Democrats For Life! Also I think the bishops would follow their own positions more carefully. The title is the old ICEL translation of the invitation to Holy Communion. The new ICEL words, approved by the bishops, are ,"Blessed are they who come to the supper of the Lamb."

I thought the same thing, Fr. Mcafee. The title of the document should reflect the actual phrase which will be used in the liturgy.

This is why Cardinal Cooke was a saint and Cardinal McCarrick is not.

Okay this brings up a question.
I got into a small brouhaha on Bettnet about whether George Bush is pro-life.
A commenter there insisted that Bush is pro-choice since he supports abortion in the case of rape or incest. I was flabbergasted, those hard cases are only 2% of the abortions in America. To think that someone who would prevent 980,000 abortions a year (assuming the average abortions a year are around 1 million) is on the other side of the sanctity of life issue is extreme.
So, what does the Church say about this? Are Bush and others like him actually pro-abortion? If so, and if they are Catholic do they deserve the prohibition against communion too?
