Methinks that Bishop-Elect Flores will not be in Detroit long, Rome is probably giving him experience before promoting him to his own diocese with a large Hispanic population (L.A.?) Archbishop Gomez of San Antonio who was an Aux. to Chaput in Denver is a case in point.

Everything you read about bishop-elect Flores is outstanding. I think he would make a wonderful Archbishop for LA. He'd certainly have his hands full there. Tom

Those priests from little near coast towns in Texas. Palacios, what a day of headlines! I thought the last time I would hear of the town was when we played them in football and baseball. God bless those tiny towns producing leaders of the Church!

Jared, yes you are right about small towns producing great men. I think of Fulton Sheen who came from the little town of El Paso in Illinois. Today it of course has a Walmart and all those other things that a small town "needs" but in his day it was realy small and remote I am sure.

Although Bishop-Elect Flores is probably slated for greater things, I am glad he is going to Detroit for now.
There is sizeable Latino community in Detroit, and considering some of the Bishops who have influenced that community (ie Gumbleton,) someone with a solid Catholic background like Flores is needed to lead these people to a better understanding of The Truth.
