Dodged a bullet? Hardly. I'd be very surprised to see him get significantly above 45% in a general election without Bush as his opponent.

No, this was a bullet. Not every bullet kills. Some just do damage, and Kerry candidacy would do damage. Anyway, we're left one less problem. And for that I am grateful.

Who said that your only choices are from the democrat party. Frankly, in my humble opinion, there are only about a handful of Democrats worth voting for in the primary or general election. Guess what....none of them are running. There some choices on the GOP side.
If you are voting based entirely on life issues, the obvious choice is Sam Brownback.
Across the board old fashioned Reagan conservatism: Ron Paul of Texas, Mitt Romeny(never made the Mormon thing an issue in Massachusetts), Newt Gingrich, and Gov. Gilmore of Virginia.

Brownback has my vote!
I too am glad Kerry has bowed out. The only thing is that I think he had potential to do more damage to the Democrats, than to the Republicans. He killed his own path to the presidency.

I'm voting in the Domocrate primary for the most unelectable democratic candidate I can find!

I believe Biden is Catholic and basically as supportive of abortion rights as Kerry. If his candidacy gains any traction, then you'll see the same debates about him in 2008 that you saw in 2004 about Kerry.

Don't be too biased: It's going to be a long road through Republicanville, too. Strong support is being shown by the Republican front runners for embyronic stem cell research. We may soon be confronted with two presendential candidates who politcally support the killing of human embryos; only the locale of the embryo provides the divergence. What then? Do we not vote or do we now vote for the best candidate notwithstanding their support for the killing of human persons? Do we assuage our conscience by manufacturing artifical categories like "the lesser of two evils"?

Maybe the Republicans will have better candidates. Although, with guys like Giuliani it's not likely.

Go Brownback!! Very solid pro-life, pro-family record. (And he's from my hometown to boot!)

I would support Browback, obviously, but I would also support Romney. Not having a Christian able to step up to the plate would be far less embarrassing than having yet another Catholic publicly flaunting Church teaching.
I would also be happy if either one of them picked Michael Steele for a running mate. I think he has got more substance and personality than Obama any day.
Now a Romney/Brownback or Brownback/Romney ticket? I think I could live with that too.

Romney is a two-faced idiot.
Anyone who believes him in his 'new found conservatism' needs a lesson in politics 101.
Brownback is the man - there should be no division amongst pro-life/pro-family advocates. We need to be united behind him NOW so that he has enough momentum to be a contender against the other big names.

I have seen the data used to downplay Romney's conservatism but it does not really sway me. It seems to me that in order to prove Romney is a "phony" one would have to demonstrate that he wavered after his supposed conversion to the pro-life understanding.
So far, he has been more consistent than even Bush.
Unless you have other data?

From the candidates I've seen, the only person I'd vote for Dem or Repub is Brownback.
