Gravatar Hard to say, as you are right and the media is going to run with this all the wrong way. But this is how I see Papa Benedict's words:
Miracles, esp as defined by the Church, are hard to come by in many places, that's what makes them so special. Maybe English miracles just take longer.
Benedict said "Hard to come by," NOT "Impossible". We have to be patient about this.
Papa Benedict is going to take his time and do this properly and carefully, the way God intends. To objectors: okay, let's see the Queen or the Archbishop of Canterbury pull one off!


Gravatar This is what I like about Pope Benedict: he is very blunt, honest, and matter of fact. I grew up for four years in Germany, and it does seem to be a trait of Germans.

To me what he is saying is that for some reason, less miracles seem to occur in England.

It would be nice that John Newman would become a saint, but you have to have miracles to confirm it.
