Gravatar If I had to bet, he told his convoked priests because he wanted to let them know that he, like them, is unable to avoid the contempt so many feel for our clergy.

As for it getting out, I guess it makes sense that someone would leak it to the press. I would imagine that that's secondary to the point of saying that he understands firsthand how his priests are being treated. Also, no one noticing his injuries isn't anything to raise eyebrows over. Bruised ribs and all that is clothed are easy to hide. If he didn't get punched in the face, it wouldn't be surprising at all that no one noticed.

Gravatar I've been praying for Cardinal Mahoney to step down. He has hurt the LA diocese in ways that are going to be hard to fix. It is so bad here, sometimes we consider moving. It is hard to find a decent mass. It is not a surprise that someone punched him. I mean, I don't condone violence at all, but he is not good for the Church. We've all seen the religious ed conference reports and that "mass" in that "cathedral" which by the way, makes me want to cry whenever I see it. I was touring downtown with a couple of friends who aren't religious and they were like, what is THAT building? It's atrocious! I didn't even want to tell them that it's a Catholic cathedral. And now they use Vibiana's (the old cathedral) for fashion shows and parties.

Gravatar Sick. Just. Sick.

Gravatar Is it bad that I honestly don't believe the man, and I think he would make up this story just for sympathy.

And let's be honest, if it happened in July, it would have been on Whispers .3 seconds later.

Gravatar You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Gravatar Well argued, Anon.
