I have now heard of a lesbian "married" couple that now wishes to "divorce" only to find they can't!

If (presumably) Gov. Romney ordered the 1913 law to be followed in 2004, then it has taken about four years for the 1913 law to be repealed. I suppose that can be considered "quickly," relatively speaking. Cf. The Defense of Marriage Act was passed three years after the Supreme Court of Hawaii decided Baehr v. Lewin.

The reason they did this is because California is permitting out-of-state couples to wed. That decision in CA came with predictions that millions would enter the CA economy from it. MA didn't want to miss out. It's all about the money, not equality.
