i KNEW there were some imprecisions in what i was reading. I knew it. But it's nice to have them clarified.

It is easy to see how the NDN could miss the distinction between a seminary and a house of priestly formation. What is not so easy to see is how the Rev. Beers himself could have missed such a distinction; the quote from the NDN was taken verbatim from the statement he emailed the AMU community.

Gravatar Agreed, Fr. B should know better.

Gravatar The reaction to this announcement is being received by grammarians as if this were Angel Queen Forum and someone had spoken out in favor of English as a liturgical language.

I'm not sure what the canonical distinction is between a "house of formation" and a seminary.

But I would say the creation of a "house of formation" dedicated to assisting men for whom English is their second and new language to perhaps become fluent enough to receive admittance to a seminary is great news. Bishop Carlson should be praised for seeing a need and doing something about it.

If we depend upon native born Americans to become the priests of tomorrow, we may be in trouble. But if we can tap the speakers of Spanish and Asian and African languages, we just might be able to pull ourselves out of the deep hole we find ourselves to be in now.

Similarly, there must be many fine aspirants to the priesthood whose basic education is inadequate. Should they not be given a chance?

The Venerable Solanus Casey had language and academic problems but he was given that chance.

Gravatar Hi,

Do you mind adding my blog?

God bless

Gravatar I am glad that someone of Fr Beers reputation is coming to Saginaw.
