Gravatar Well, he is doomed to fail in the next election. What kind of nonsense is that??? You would think he would have learned from Pelosi's error.

40 days of prayer for the pro-life cause starts on Friday, September 13th. We have been asked to say the rosary daily for this cause... 27 days in petition and 27 in thanksgiving. Life is victorious!

Finola, Ca

Gravatar It seems that Their Excellencies' responses were neither strong enough nor blunt enough.

I wonder why Biden's staff allowed him to interivew on Meet-the-Press...

Instead, Mr. Biden should have been paying close attention to today's Holy +Gospel. For most of us were busy hearing the words of +Christ Jesus, "Amen, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven!"

And the preface, "If he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, so that ‘every fact may be established on the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ If he refuses to listen to them, tell the church. If he refuses to listen even to the church, then treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector."

Moreso, it seems that the Senator has stepped into "a dictatorship of relativism."

"Today, having a clear faith based on the Creed of the Church is often labeled as fundamentalism. Whereas relativism, that is, letting oneself be 'tossed here and there, carried about by every wind of doctrine,' seems the only attitude that can cope with modern times. We are building a dictatorship of relativism that does not recognize anything as definitive and whose ultimate goal consists solely of one's own ego and desires."

I'm wondering if this might be an opportunity for a certain someone to speak Ex Cathedra?

Gravatar First blunder: Brokaw!! Rick Warren's question was "at what point does a baby get/is entitled to *human rights* ?" Which makes Senator Obama's response all the more ridiculous!

Second blunder: Biden! For everything he said!

Sheesh. Just my .02

Gravatar Thomas, I would like to make a correction to my previous post... the 54 day novena starts this Friday, 12th (not the 13th), taking us up to election day.

Thanks!

Gravatar BIDEN: "It's a personal and private issue. For me, as a Roman Catholic, I'm prepared to accept the teachings of my church [about when human life begins]."

Ha ha ha ha ha ha! The teachings of my Church, about when life begins???

It's the biology, stupid.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Gravatar I suspect Cardinal Egan is already drafting his rebuttal...

Gravatar [Deleted for being intentionally off topic - AmP.]

Gravatar I would imagine Cardinal Egan is not going to be pleased that his name was tossed around while trying to defend pro-abortion legislation. Card. Egan's previous commentary on Pelosi was cutting, but I have a feeling Biden better really brace himself for something even worse.

Gravatar Is this the dictatorship of relativism?

Gravatar Amazing.

Gravatar Over at Catholics Against Joe Biden, I've finished up a dialog with someone who is presumably the typical cafeteria Catholic. It took lots of chopping through the "personally opposed", ensoulment, contraception as the solution to abortion, etc, but I got him to admit that abortion was only circumstantially evil rather than the truth that it is objectively evil. It was telling because I think this is precisely what Biden, Pelosi (and Guiliani to be fair) believe. Which makes their bleating about reducing abortions and being personally opposed meaningless platitudes.

Dictatorship of relativism indeed.

Gravatar Mr. Biden said his belief that life begins at conception is a matter of faith.

The US Conference of Catholic bishops said in their fact sheet that it's a matter of science:

"Given the scientific fact that a human life begins at conception, the only moral norm needed to understand the Church’s opposition to abortion is the principle that each and every human life has inherent dignity, and thus must be treated with the respect due to a human person."

Gravatar i would be very pleased with this election if i saw joe biden lose both the vice presidential seat and his senatorial seat (he's running for both!). i hope faithful delaware catholics--if there are any that remain--will vote him out of the senate, and not just deny him the vp office.

it's time for him to ponder his faith in retirement.

Gravatar If I understand Biden's position correctly, if someone believed that Biden's life is not a human life and decided that he had the right to kill Biden, then Biden, by his own--and I use the term loosely--reasoning, could not ligically oppose that person's decision to kill him.

Gravatar "ligically"? "logically", dummy!

Gravatar Fool us once, shame on us. Fool us twice, shame on you. The chickens are coming home to roost on the pro-abort Catholic politicians who sold out their faith- and unborn babies- for a few extra votes and the approval of the Leftist In Crowd. I fully expected Jabberin Joe to cause problems with his pie hole early and often. How hilarious that he did it over the same topic that is causing Nancy Pelosi no end of aggravation. But this time, substituting Aquinas for misinterpreting Aquinas instead of Augustine. We might as well start a poll- who will be the next pro-abort Catholic to step into this cow pie? And which great theologian will get his theories mangled? This is too much fun.

Gravatar Bonus question for anyone who wants to try it:

Where in the Summa does St. Thomas discuss quickening? Don't waste too much time looking, because it's not there. It's in the Commentary on the Sentences.

A minor point, perhaps, but if Senator Biden were serious in providing support for this, wouldn't you think he'd know that? It's not hard to find on the Internet.

Gravatar What if it is my personal belief that human life begins at age 7?

does that get me out of being tried for Murder if I killed a 6 year old?

Sold his soul to the devil hid did...

Gravatar I can't understand how any person who claims to be Catholic could have the guts (or perhaps the self-loathing) to draw such a line in the sand the day before his new Bishop is to be installed, and himself planning to attend that Mass and receive the Eucharist unworthily.

Gravatar BIDEN: "It's a personal and private issue. For me, as a Roman Catholic, I'm prepared to accept the teachings of my church [about when human life begins]."

Well, he's the got the "my" part right, because it sure ain't Christ's Church.

And it's comforting to know that he's prepared to accept the teachings of his church, whichever church that happens to be. But it won't be the Catholic Church.

Gravatar Biden is a member of The Anointed; the rules that apply to the rest of us don't apply to them.

Gravatar "Fool us once, shame on us. Fool us twice, shame on you."

Gerard E., I think you have that expression backwards, but I know what you meant. :)

Gravatar Thomas,
Thanks for your prompt and perceptive coverage of these scandals - well done.
What a sad wreck is Sen. Biden - he needs to look in the mirror AND he needs a lot of prayer.

Gravatar I'm not surprised Biden said the same thing Pelosi did. Through the years, he's shown a great talent for plagiarism.

Gravatar We all should pray for the Bishop in waiting of Delaware, I believe Rocco said that he is to be installed shortly. May he receive gifts of holy charity and prudence to correct error and save souls.

Gravatar The dissection of Biden's "thinking" re: the moral inability to oppose Fascism, but not the murder of the innocent unborn is excellent.

Obama has promised to sign the Freedom of Choice Act as his first act as President. It seems someone should inform the Delaware Senator that the FOCA will mandate the public funding of abortion that he claims he opposes.

Gravatar "Biden has claimed, "There is a debate in our church, as Cardinal Egan would acknowledge, that's existed.""

I didn't let Biden finish the sentence when I said to my screen, what debate, there's never been a debate on when life begins.

When he said, "For me, as a Roman Catholic, I'm prepared to accept the teachings of my church." I said to the screen really, when will you accept them.

I can't belive that he tired the same tired I'm personally against argument. I can't think of how the pastor at my parish said it during his homily, maybe it will come to me later, but it was along the lines of personally against won't work. He also said from the pulpit "it is always wrong to take innocent life from the womb" it might have been in the womb, but either way Church teaching was spoken.

I kept thinking during his homily, use Pelosi as a teaching moment, maybe now that 2 "catholics" have said the same stupid thing, that our priests on the local level will use it as teaching moment.

Time to say a few more Rosaries and novenas. ;)

Gravatar Let's say Biden changed his views on abortion tomorrow, in full harmony with the views of his Church. Then what? His understanding of Christ, of the relation between the Christian and Christ, of what it means to be a Christian, of the "new horizon" that Pope Benedict speaks about in Deus Caritas Est... it's still totally flawed, totally deformed by the modern reduction of faith to a sort of vague inspiration and a moral guide. There are many Republican catholic politicians who have this same deficient understanding of the faith, but since they are orthodox on all the moral issues, we don't notice it. But the problem lies deeper than morality, the crisis is one of the understanding between the relation between God and man.

Gravatar bill912, great line!

Gravatar Evil only triumphs when good men do nothing. Please join in praying and fasting for 40 Days for Life, beginning Wednesday, September 24, thru Sunday, November 2; that God will hear our cry for the poorest of the poor and heal this land, one Catholic at a time.

Gravatar To rd:

Yes, there are truly faithful Catholics in Delaware and to most of us Joe Biden is an embarrassment. And the new Bishop, unfortunately has already shown glimpses of how he will handle the Bidens of the world, with the eternal unending lip service and no action. I hope and pray that I'm wrong. Why do these politicians get invited to these events anyway? It's very hipocritical to tell them they can't speak at Catholic schools and colleges yet invite them with front row seats to see the Pope and to Bishop installations to give them communion in front of everyone. When you see the stuff that goes on it's so hard to stay a faithful Catholic. But that love for my Jesus in the Eucharist keeps me in the church.

May God have mercy on us all!

Gravatar Reposting my comment from WDTPRS:

“I’m prepared as a matter of faith to accept that life begins at the moment of conception”

Please note, he never says “I do believe.” He always states “I’m prepared to believe.”

If he actually DID believe it, he would be forced to fight against abortion.

Gravatar Who's up for St Bonaventure being the next saint a pro-abortion "Catholic" tries to co-opt?

Gravatar Imagine where we would be if Abraham Lincoln said "Sure, I'm personally against slavery, but who am I to tell someone else that Blacks are equal if their belief is otherwise?

This is PC run amuck. And the relativism that Pope Benedict is always warning us about.

Gravatar Archbishop Chaput released another statement today entitled “Public Servants and Moral Reasoning.”

Gravatar Thanks, Lyda.

Gravatar Biden's claim that he does not support taxpayer funded abortion is not true. he hasn't voted against a taxpayer funded abortion bill since 1999. Just this past February he voted against an amendment that would prevent abortion funding at Indian healthcare clinics:
http://www.lifenews.com/nat4284b.html

Gravatar it seems that biden hasn't gotten the same level or number of responses as pelosi did by Tuesday evening.

Gravatar Here's what I don't understand about the nonsecular argument over this issue - the debate is not pro life vs. pro death or anti-abortion vs. pro abortion - it is anti abortion RIGHTS vs. pro abortion RIGHTS. Which is to say, on the pro abortion RIGHTS side, that the government should not legislate on a private medical decision.

Also, I never hear "pro-lifers" talk about supporting or providing pre-natal care and education, economic support and career training, or providing affordable and quality child care for families.

I'm gonna make a hyperbolic statement and say - yes - a baby is a human but if you leave it on its own, it will die. And if you cannot provide properly for it, it will suffer. There are plenty of neglected and ill treated children in this world that have a less than happy life.

Its not to say that we should encourage people to be irresponsible, get pregnant, and then kill the baby before its born -- but there is a MUCH bigger issue about life here.
People have to have healthy pregnancies to have healthy babies.

Outlawing all abortion in every case is ludicrous. Its simply not the only problem in the world. You may as well attack a woman's body for causing a miscarriage.

Having children should not be only about the biological ability to create them.

Someone should have given Bristol some condoms.

Gravatar Also, I never hear "pro-lifers" talk about supporting or providing pre-natal care and education, economic support and career training, or providing affordable and quality child care for families.

Then you need to familiarize yourself with Problem Pregnancy Centers and have conversations with pro-life people instead of waiting for the MSM to talk about it, because they won't.

Pro-abortion proponents said that legalized abortion would curtail or even end child abuse because unwanted children wouldn't be born. The sad fact is, child abuse has increased dramatically since 1973. When there's a mentality that it's okay to kill a child still in the womb, then it's no surprise the mentality to abuse a child once it's born would remain and even worsen.

Gravatar I'm with Kim. The Biden-Pelosi-gate diatribe orgy of recriminating blogs on their "theological" positions is a waste of time. It's obvious that Republicans on this website who were going to vote for McCain-Palin no matter what, are going to complain about any Democratic candidate; Democrats (who don't seem to be especially welcome on this website)mainly don't look to their politicians for theological or moral advice, frankly, and intend to vote for Obama to get out of Iraq, come up with some kind of rational health care plan, help preserve the environment, and in general work on all of those life after birth type issues we'd better attend to for the unborn to live in our world. It's the economy, stupid!
