Colbert's getting rather too taken with Colbert. I'm beginning to tire of him.

I rather enjoyed it. Not his funniest stuff but still cute.

"You have not had communion until you've had it smothered with pump-on nacho cheese!" LOL! I don't watch Colbert nearly enough. As has been said, not his funniest effort, but still good for a chuckle or two.

Good except for the Communion joke.
The "mitre friendly doorway" was the best. The protestant joke was #2, because protestant jokes are always funny.

Dear Colbert,
Communion and pump-on nacho cheese? How did I never think of that awesome of a liturgical abuse?
Love,

Yeah, the communion was the worst. The rest was pretty good... miter-friendly doorways... Air Popes... cute.

Maybe the Communion and pump-on nacho cheese shtick was a reference to the fact that it IS a little odd to have Mass in a baseball park...I know it's the only space that size to accommodate everyone, but it's not where I'd like to attend Mass every Sunday.
I agree with most everyone else...some of it fell flat, but most of it was pretty funny.

Exactly. Anyone who steps foot in a ballpark and doesn't get nachos and hot dogs and beer doesn't like America. Colbert simply combined a facet of going to a baseball game with going to a Mass. Irreverent? Sure, but it was just a joke, and one that I found funny. Better than hearing other late-night jokesters compare priests to Michael Jackson.

Amen to that, Nathan!

Certain things ought never be joked about. I'm inclined to believe that Holy Communion falls into that category, especially in light of Jesus' words to St. Margaret Mary about the indifference, ingratitude, sacrilege, etc, related to His Real Presence that deeply hurts Him. Anyone disagree?

Nate,
I do not disagree. While I realize it's a joke, the cheese reference betrays an understanding of Holy Communion as a thing, rather than as a Person. Best not to fool around with this one, I think.
