AmericanPapist Comments

Gravatar Megan's comments capture the spirit of the event pretty well. As a seminarian, I was right in the front section. There was a group of seminarians near me who were responsible for most of the chants (things like Salve Regina, Regina Coeli, and Christus Vincit). And while the cheers and songs might have been an "interruption," the Holy Father surely looked energized, happy, and--dare I say it?-- young.

Gravatar Great account! I could only see it on the Internet but I sensed the energy. I especially let the Holy Father's message sink in. He had powerful words of encouragement.
Papist, will we see your interview with CNN on your site??
Thanks for your coverage and comments!

Gravatar Megan (and Thomas), thanks for sharing -- my face is hurting from grinning! I watched the USCCB video stream of the Youth Rally (a-gain!) this morning, and noted how strongly the Holy Father was responding to the joy and energy of these young people. Absolutely infectious!

Now, to digest his message, which applies to ALL of us, yes?

Gravatar That "God in the streets of NY" was played at Yankee Stadium and I thought it was quite impressive. Sounds like the same goodies were given at Yankee Stadium with the exception of no water and the program was set for Mass.

Great post, a few of the teens from my parish went and I just happened to look at some of the pictures they took and it looked like everyone including the Pope was energized by this rally.

Gravatar What a great account Megan! Thank you Thomas for posting this. I was there and Megan is absolutely right! It is nice and very refreshing to have such a personal account. I especially liked her comment, "The seminarians were the worst..." She is right. The religious sisters, brothers, and seminarians were waaay out of control! The greatest moment was watching the Holy Father chuckle at not being able to speak because we wanted to tell him how much we loved him. I saw true joy and love on his face!

"Christ our Hope, Benedict our Pope!"

Gravatar What a great account Megan! Wish I could have been there (but of course I'm not 'young'-I'm 53 years old).

I did hear a radio sound bite from one of the NYC stations-I can get it on my radio at night up here in Central New York state-everyone kept chanting, "WE LOVE YOU! WE LOVE YOU!" It was so infectious! And Papa clearly loved it in return!

Yeah, Religious Brother, I echo your shout, "Christ our Hope, Benedict our Pope!"
