Who cares? The Democrats in attendence there aren't Catholics in good standing anyway. Tom

This underscores the fact that any appearance by Senator Casey at the Democratic convention will be merely to serve as a poster boy. He is controllable by the party, and thus will provide them the political cover of appearing to be friendly and open to serious, informed, politically active Catholics.
Their ignoring Archbishop Chaput shines the light of truth on the fact that any appearance of genuine openness to Catholics who are willing to let their faith consistently inform their political activity and therefore challenge the Democratic Party on its anti-life stance is indeed merely a facade.

I. Dead Family Walking: The Bourque Family Story of Dead Man Walking , by D. D. deVinci, Goldlamp Publishing, 2006
" . . .makes you realize the Dead Man Walking truly belongs on the shelf in the library in the Fiction category."
"Being devout Catholics, 'the norm' would be to look to the church for support and healing. Again, this need for spiritual stability was stolen by Sister Prejean."
The book alleges whole cloth fabrications by Sister Prejean within her book "Dead Man Walking".
"On November 5, 1977, the Bourque's teenage daughter, Loretta, was found murdered in a trash pile near the city of New Iberia, Louisiana lying side by side near her boyfriend–with three well-placed bullet holes behind each head. "

II. The Victims of Dead Man Walking
by Michael L. Varnado, Daniel P. Smith
comment -- A very different story than that written by Sister Helen Prejean. Detective Varnado was the investigating officer in the murder of Faith Hathaway. 2003
III. Death Of Truth: Sister Prejean's new book Death Of Innocents
For some years, there has existed a consistent pattern, from death penalty opponents, to declare certain death row inmates to be actually innocent. Those claims have, consistently, been 70-83% in error. ("ALL INNOCENCE ISSUES -- THE DEATH PENALTY")
Keep that in mind with "Death of Innocents".
Readers should be very careful, as they have no way of knowing if any of the fact issues in either of the two cases, as presented by Sister Prejean, are true. Readers would have to conduct their own thorough, independent examination to make that determination. You can start here.

Why does it matter? It's not a religious convention. Plus, he mostly likely wouldn't go anyway. Would you invite someone to your party is they were so vocal against you. Chaput is a good man and does great things for the Church, but he too is human and has made some mistakes and in my opinion forgotten about his Capuchin background. That would certainly help him in his ministry. Let the Democrats do there thing and we can pray for them. And yes, there are many Catholics who are democrates so they will be at the convention too. Even if they support abortion, same-sex marriages, or whatever else irrational thinkers can think of they are still Catholic. Standing for or against abortion does not make you Catholic. Believing in the One God who has saved us in Christ, given to us in the Most Holy Sacrament and uniting ourselves together in faith is what makes us Catholic. Abortion is wrong, but there are others issues out there too that we (as Catholic) aslo forget or ignore that does damage to the human person.

TAJ, you are wrong. If you are for abortion, you are NOT a catholic. I don't care if you fall in line with every other single thing the Church teaches. It's not some small issue compared to whether or not the Mass should be in Latin or not, comparative to abortion, THAT is a very small issue. If you are pro-abortion and you call yourself a catholic, you are a blazingly naive hypocrite.

anon sem: I am strongly against abortion no matter how much anyone on these webpages may disagree with based on comments. I agree with the position that we need to continue to pray for and work toward eliminating abortion, but I am sorry if I don't feel called to militant about it as some others do. All I am saying is God is bigger than we could ever imagine and I don't believe that someone who may or may not have a misinformed conscience is evil. We are intrinsically good. We are called to conversion and through the power of the Holy Spirit we slowly are opened to the truths of our faith. The problem is many people (Catholics included) don't live the message of the gospel they claimt o preach so they turn people away. My students once told me they don't like to be yelled at by "pro-lifers" or "pro-choicers", but would rather sit and talk about the issues centered around Christ. They are ot turned on by hatred and neither am I. I will continue to love those who support abortion and pray that their hearts may be opened. I believe and trust that is what God calls me to do. We don't change without love and it's through GOd's grace that any of us have the capacity to love and in turn lead others to his freedom.
I don't appreciate you making claims about my political or religious convictions. I have struggled on my journey just as much as the next person, but I thing I know I can trust is God continues to love me and walk with me even when I make horrible decisions. God does not abonded us. He will not abandon Obama, those who vote for him, the democrats (because trust me I know enough Republicans that have just as many issues), those who have or perform abortions, etc. Don't you see the gospel is much bigger. Loving somoen and praying for them doesn't mean you support their position. God knows if that was the case I should have been killed by now. God also knows that I wouldn't get out of bed each morning if I didn't share in his love in order to give that back.
It's a horrible thing that millions of innocent children have been killed> I have done abortion counseling with college students (those who have had them and were thinking about them) and I have seen the pain that plagues them. God does not desire that - They come to seek healing and reconciliation and yet some just keep on yelling and telling them how horrible they are. If that's the God you believe in then I will pray for you because that is not the God of the Scriptures.
