The travesty of the worldly, mostly anti-Catholic media misquoting and misleading the world as to what the document actually says is nothing new. This is exactly how they operated during Vatican II! Most US Catholics got their information on what was happening not from "the horses' mouth" but from the New York Times, complete with anonymous commentary from a self-described expert.
It's no wonder then that the "spirit of Vatican II" that was given absolute authority by many was in complete opposition to the actual letter of Vatican II - inasmuch as this spirit was created by the Media and uncritically accepted as 'true' by gullable Catholics, or used by cynical heretics within the Church who prided themselves on their erudition and title of "theologian" (when most can't fight their way out of a wet paper bag theologically).
This is yet another reason why we need alternative media outlets and Catholic media - to make sure what we are told is in fact 'what happened and what was truly said'. To expect non- or anti-Catholics to do the Church's work of evangelization and catechesis is to expect too much from people.
