The Big Guy takes the lion's share of the reasons for conversion, I see.

David B,

I have often noted that difference myself. Many Muslim converts report divine intervention in their conversions and/or realizing that the love of God in Christianity is something entirely different from that in Islam.

On the other hand, all, and I mean all, Western Muslim converts report being impressed with the system of Islam. Their personal judgement of its value, its superiority etc and therefore its divine origin (because it is so impressive and superior a system) is the only reason they ever report for their conversions.

On the one hand, divine intervention.

On the other only human judgement.

On the one hand, God Himself speaks directly to the convert.

On the other, only the human voice is heard.

The difference is abundantly clear, is it not?

Gravatar I'm reminded of B16's comments in Spe Salvi, how all people have hope, but only Christian hope is substantial. Both Christians and Muslims fear divine retribution and hope for salvation, but Christian hope is rooted on the solid rock of Christ, whereas Muslim hope rests on the shifting sands of pious practices and predestination. In the same way, the Christian belief in the fatherhood of God for all the baptized is not a pious metaphor or wishful thinking - it is firmly embedded in the reality of Christ, who he was and what he did. Likewise, a Muslim might hope for the mercy a true son would receive, but he must hope against reason, hope against all hope. Only Christ can free us from the folly of staring at black and hoping it were white.

Gravatar Anglican Peggy,

Right on. Right on.
