Thx for pointing this out. I personally feel the funeral was over the top, but it was not canonically illicit. Them's the rules.

Normally, I might worry about "over the top".

However, this was an opera funeral of one of the great ones; and now we hear that he was also a found sheep. So you would have to go a lot higher than this to go "over the top". Also, it's better that all the drama should go into a good Catholic funeral than that some bizarre Diana or Elvis cult should arise.
