Gravatar Dropping the charade, eh? Wonder if Catholic folk in certain quarters will as well.

Gravatar I think the recent mixed signals from the Dems are all about political maneuvering. They tried to follow a slightly softer line on abortion, hoping that playing down the issue would indeed help them with "values voters." Then McCain picked Palin, staking a solid GOP claim to those same "values voters;" the Dems know they can't compete against Palin head-to-head, so they're going for the pro-abortion line hoping it will energize the pro-abort true believers enough to make up for the loss of "values voters."

(Plus, to a Democratic Party true believer, Palin probably does look like a right-wing zealot. So they may indeed believe their own schtick.)

Gravatar So just as with his own campaign promises ("I'm gonna create 20 million new jobs" and "I'm gonna reduce our carbon emissions to 10% of what they are now" and "I'm gonna put 5 million electric cars on the road") he doesn' really provide any information on exactly how McCain plans to illegalize abortion.

Gravatar so much also for senator bob casey jr's reassurance to pro-life democrats that obama will hear them out. it makes casey look like a fool, and perhaps like he's trying to to fool the voters.

casey should strongly reconsider his support for obama.

for casey to switch his support, coming from a large battleground state, would deal a huge blow to the democratic campaign. it might be political suicide for him, but it's the honest and faithful thing to do.

Gravatar I think what will happen is that Catholics like Bob Casey will quietly, and with no fanfare, pull the lever for McCain/Palin. Tom

Gravatar But a good Catholic can vote Democrat, since they share the USCCB's position on saving the endangered sea slug.

SOMEONE hasn't been listening to Fr. Feelgood's homilies lately.

And besides, opposing Obama is racist, and a Catholic can't be racist, so we all must support Obama.

Gravatar Not surprised. There's a political cartoon out there showing Obama in a dumpster outside an abortion clinic with a baseball bat, smashing the contents of the dumpster. The caption reads, "Just making sure there weren't any survivors."

Obama/Biden is the most pro-abortion ticket in US history. By comparison, McCain/Palin might be the most pro-life ticket in history.

Gravatar McCain better be trying to make abortion illegal. That is why I am voting for him.

Gravatar "Anyone who refuses to protect innocent life lacks the wisdom to lead and the moral authority to speak on war and poverty."

Everyone should copy and paste that line into every combox you can find, and encourage others to do the same. And just keep repeating it whenever abortion and Obama comes up in conversation.

What does Obama say about war? Who cares?! He calls his own hypothetical grandkids a punishment and is willing to kill them. His views on war and anything else are highly suspect.

This is the real heart of the election, and if the Republicans don't make the connection that defending innocent life is a qualification of leadership, then they will lose a magnificent opportunity.

Copy and paste, folks. I am.

Gravatar Doc Angelicus - I'm borrowing that line. Good one.

Gravatar It is not just on the airwaves that he is sending out this message. Yesterday, I received a very large postcard that was of the same ilk. I live in Pennsylvania.

It is posted on my site. Peace. ~~~mary

Gravatar What rubbish. _McCain_ is going to make abortion illegal? Hmmm. I guess that whole 2/3 of Congress, 3/4 of states thing is an outdated way of amending the constitution.

Overturning Roe v. Wade will not be the end of the pro-life movement. It will simply shift the debate to 50 separate state legislatures or the above-mentioned process for amending the constitution. Pro-lifers, we must not grow complacent or overconfident!
