Is he orthodox?

Gravatar DJL,

A good question. I was at his installation Mass where he was consecrated a Bishop. His homily was fine, but after 7 years I don't remember his actual words. It was the last time I saw him in person.

Since then, all I can go by is the local press exposure. The only thing that he is really known for is 1) immigration issues, and 2) AIDS awareness/ministry. I can't say that he is unorthodox, but I would say his position on these two issues mimic the secular left: open borders/social programs for immigrants; increased spending on treatment/research for AIDS patients - never a call for behavior change.

In things liturgical, I haven't a clue, although I guess he takes his cue from Bishop Brown (very progressive.)

Gravatar thank you Pope Benedict for this new ministry for Bishop Soto!!!!

Gravatar I'd caution anyone out there who would throw an "unorthodox" label on him based on his association with the current ordinary of orange. We'll just have to see what he does once he becomes the ordinary. Pray for the man.

Gravatar Brings new meaning to "soto voce"

Gravatar I was about to say ... there's a really excellent pun in here somewhere. :)
