As long as his abortion record remains what it is. I will have a hard time taking Mr. Obama seriously when he is talking about values. His answer, "it's above my pay grade" to the question about when life begins was a perfect illustration of this.
Since when is fidelity in marriage or family of any importance to Catholic or mainline Christian liberals? Obviously they want to dissuade those who do believe in fidelity to not vote for McCain. What a sly tactic! If the divorce had been recent, it would have been more relevant. Being a POW for that many years would in itself be a big factor in the breakup.
Not making any excuses for McCain, but I wonder how Obama's marriage would have stood had he been in a POW camp for 5 years...Oh Anonymous just said that.
Again, I think your personal life is important, but I cannot imagine how enduring something like McCain did would mess with your head. Just let's look at it from both sides.
The difference with respect to McCain (and Reagan before him) vs. their political opponents is...both McCain and Reagan acknowledged that their earlier divorces were largely THEIR FAULT.
Both sought forgiveness and moved on to live faithful lives since. They didn't change their politics to make it all better as some seem to do.
With respect to Divorce vs. abortion.... even if we posit that McCain is an adulterer, what's worse? Being personally in danger of one's soul, or going out of one's way to promote the intentional slaughter of millions of innocent unborn children?
Many on the Left howl about war and yet what is it about war that is bad, exactly? Is it "the waste of money better spent at home"? or is it "the loss of innocent life"?
If the latter, then on what moral or philosophical planet must they live on to be ho-hum about abortion in which 1.5 MILLION absolutely innocent human beings are slaughtered vs. a war in which at most some tens of thousands are killed - mostly at the hands of our enemies, not our hands?
It's the classic strainging of the gnat and swallowing of the camel.
Wasn't McCain's first wife a divorcee? It could be argued that his first marraige was no marriage at all.
