Gravatar You have it pretty much covered, but don't forget the Prevention First Act - very scary stuff. But keep hope and as JPII would say, "be not afraid!" because personhood amendments are still possible even with FOCA and PFA! Alleluia!

Gravatar The military will be forced to actively recruit active homosexuals. My Marine son and his fellow Marines are buying their own guns. My son's orthodontist(a young married woman)told me today that she is buying a gun and going to take lessons! Another friend's husband went out and bought a gun for the first time in his life (in their 60's).
Did you hear about the Black Panthers at a polling place in Philadelphia intimidaitng voters?
Obama wants to institute a civilian military force for young people which would be mandatory at a cost of $500 billion! Past activities of this group (Clinton started funding it) included passing out condoms. I could foresee them being pressed into guard duty at abortion mills, the high holy temples of Moloch, who will be the official the new god of our country after FOCA.
The Boy Scouts will be forced to close.

Gravatar The Boy Scouts will be forced to close.

Mein Gott, some of you people live in a reactionary distopia.

Grow up, will you? It's beyond pathetic. It's unhealthy.

Use your brains rather than you venom gland to think with. I'm in no way saying that you have to agree with or embrace the new status quo, but just try and be the tiniest bit sensible about it, will you?

Gravatar OCD: ^dystopia.

Gravatar CBLF do you have an issue with any of my predictions?

Gravatar A couple of other thoughts:
1) Rescinding the Mexico City Policy
2) While a "Catholic" answer to progressive tax codes is a hard to come by, the surity that Obama will eventually raise taxes on everyone brings to mind an impending issue which will ensure that more of our income will fund social policies which are in direct conflict with our Catholic faith
3) Socialized Healthcare. Again, while caring for the poor among us is, in fact, an important Catholic social teaching, a Catholic may have serious misgivings about how a government will employ such a system. Issues such as forced sterilization, removal of certain end of life care, etc. are sure to be on the horizon of a socialized health care future.

Gravatar The time has come for our church to stand courageously against the government and the IRS in particular, and not be afraid to act uncompromisingly for our faith in the face of threats of non-profit tax revocations.

May we all have the courage of St. Thomas More, especially our bishops and pastors.

Oh how He wished he came to find the earth already ablaze. Let us not cower before bureaucrats.

Gravatar Removal of President Reagan's executive order which undid the 'fairness doctrine'. Folks...this is one of the first in their sights. They've already stated so. The real reason is that they need absolute 100% media control to commit their atrocities.

There will not be any investigations into blatant voter fraud, so you can say goodbye to fair elections. I'm guessing they got away with 1-3 million fraudulent votes THIS time. That's nothing for what they'll be able to do next time.

Someone else mentioned the so-called 'Civilian Force'. This is the new version of the 'Brown Shirts'.

It is absolutely painful for me to say this...but the 'UNITED States of America' is dead. We are a deeply deeply divided country in a spiritual civil war which Christians have essentially just lost.

There WILL be a chastisement of enormous proportions...it is now just a matter of time. The blood of the innocents has run for so long now that marginal Christians have been easily plucked by the snares of the devil.

If everything proceeds according to form, the American version of Nazism (National Socialism) will rise quickly...perhaps with resistance...perhaps not. The remnant faithful will likely be persecuted beyond the likes this country has ever seen.

God will protect the remnant faithful in many ways. One angel is now marking the faithful to be spared while another 'avenging' angel prepares the chastisement.

Brothers and Sisters in Christ...it is a SPIRITUAL battle we are in.

Keep praying for deliverance from what is in store. The blood of the innocents will be avenged.

Gravatar Craig, I was going to mention the "Fairness Doctrine", but you beat me to it. I imagine it will even apply to the internet.

Gravatar "Use your brains rather than you(sic) venom gland to think with."

Irony.

Gravatar CBLF do you have an issue with any of my predictions?

Yes. Number 1) is overblown. The free practice of your Catholic faith will not be impinged at all. Things might happen that you do not agree with, but you'll be perfectly free to profess, confess and digress in whatever way you please.

As for the rest, it seems varyingly reasonable. As an atheist and a non-Catholic, I actually agree with you that speaking in doctrinal terms it's contradictory for professing Catholics to not oppose abortion. Doing so is a clear teaching of the Magisterium. Their answer might be that they do not personally advocate, but are willing to extend choice to the individual.

I don't think the Roe v Wade and gay marriage litmus test for the SC will be nearly as strong as you state it, but that'll be something to find out. I am sure the choices will be more centrist than polar. However, that is said from the perspective of someone who thinks gay marriage is a perfectly desirable thing.

Now, I have answered your question. Will you answer one of mine? Do you think "the Boys Scouts will be forced to close" is a rational statement?

Gravatar Irony.

Oh. Right. So the need to buy guns to protect yourself from Black Panthers and the forecasting of forced closure of the Boy Scouts are sensible reactions, are they?

Gravatar Why do you say that there will be a new openness to gay marriage? Obama does not support gay marriage. In fact, the loss it has suffered in California is the one victory social conservatives can be happy about.

Gravatar Although we cannot support gay marriage, that doesn't mean we should not be charitable to homosexuals. The whole closing the Boy Scouts thing is just stupid. I read that letter too. It presupposes that all gay men want to assault children. That's just not true and certainly not charitable.

The life issues are another story. We'll see what happens, and meanwhile, we'll pray.

Gravatar The funny thing about Prop 8 in CA is that 70% of blacks supported it. Obama's natural draw for blacks to get out and vote seems to have undermined the effort to defeat it. Talk about irony.

And speaking of irony, CBLF, I took bill912 to be referring to your manner and not your content. I'm not saying one way or the other if he's right, but that is the face value of his comment.

Gravatar WOW the people who post here and the author of the blog are moving to extremism. That second comment is just shocking! I'll read catholic news elsewhere. Thanks.

Gravatar I don't agree with most of LvB's comments, else I would have listed them as things I see on the horizon. I agree that we should be reasonable and precise in exactly what we resist. But let's face it, there's alot coming.

Gravatar dave - what have I said that's extreme?

and don't kid, you'll be back. :)

Gravatar The GBLT movement with their democratic allies have restricted or banned the Boy Scout's use of public parks, hiked rental fees from city leased properties to drive them out, etc. No reason to think they'll stop now.

BSA in the long run will prevail unless/until the Bill of Rights itself is undermined by a liberal SCOTUS, which in light of Roe vs. Wade is not entirely out of the question.

Guns. Well, every repressive regime in human history has included a paramilitary arm of thugs used to intimidate the populace or get rid of political enemies. In virtually every case of genocide a seemingly civilized political scene turned overnight into savage abuse...when the scape-goated population was disarmed.

Liberals are on record wanting a disarmed population where only the police (and criminal gangs) have guns.

TODAY it's impossible for Bush or Obama to enforce a police state on the USA, but there are bills in Congress that would sequentially (and overnight) take away crucial elements of "we the peoples" ability to defend ourselves including a new Assault Weapons Ban, a ban on virtually all deer rifle ammo that could penetrate a police vest, or a 500% tax on ammo. There are proposals to drive gun stores and ranges out of the cities and suburbs, thus reducing the ability of people to keep, bear, and train with arms... and all of these bills COULD pass as early as next year.

The 2nd amendment is only as strong as the judicial branch that upholds it. Heller showed us a serious push on the part of liberals to claim it was a collective right.... so there are definitely things in bills right now that could go a long way to disarming the population in the next year.

Finally, motive. Many conservatives have taken to heart the vitriolic hate of liberals directed our way these last 8 years and wonder what manner or fashion this hatred will next manifest itself via the local, state and federal bureaucracy now that they're in power.

The "National Civilian Security Force" which is "just as powerful, just as well funded and just as large" as the Department of Defense is scary. What could Obama possibly have meant by this? It's the unknown coupled with the real hatred we feel directed towards us that makes alot of people feel that picking up a gun might not be such a bad idea anymore.

Gravatar I posted a comment over on the open thread the Anchoress is running today regarding how we are going to prevent FOCA from arriving on President Obama's desk.

The two questions I posed were: (1) are bishops going to deny communion to senators and representatives who support the Act; and (2) because of the immense harm that the passage of FOCA will cause, will the bishops dust off the excommunication hammer? If they are not going to use it to stop an abomination like FOCA, when will they use it?

Gravatar Since were tossing out hypothetical s... What do we do when nationalized health care comes along with the assurance of state funded abortions.

That would mean that my tax money was paying for someone's abortion.

Gravatar I'm going out on a limb here:

Labor pains, people, labor pains.

"Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn, while the world rejoices; you will grieve, but your grief will become joy. When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived; but when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy that a child has been born into the world. So you also are now in anguish. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you." (John 16: 20-22)

Maranatha! Come Lord Jesus!

Gravatar "Grow up, will you? It's beyond pathetic. It's unhealthy."

It's strange, but that line has been the talking point of libs all day.

Gravatar Not that CBLF is a robot.

Gravatar talk, talk, talk....that's all we've got. Meanwhile the world's rolling right over the faith. I'd say the faithful but most of them aren't. But keep talking, talk's safe, and doesn't interfere with your life....does anyone really think that He'll find faith on earth?

Gravatar "does anyone really think that He'll find faith on earth?"

Not yes, but Heaven, yes.

Gravatar Carbon Based Life Form.
Mr Peter's first line was:

"A new liberal majority which, sadly, is often antagonistic to the free practice of our Catholic faith as it effects our public activities."

I would submit that the important section is:

"as it effects our public activities."

Activities such as;
1)Catholic adoption agencies forced to adopt to gay couples (admittedly several appear to have happily rolled over to this one on their own).
2) Catholic hospitals forced to do (or allow) abortions.
3) Catholic pharmacists not allowed to refuse to fill prescriptions for contraseptives based on conscience.

Gravatar I believe Obama is on record for the following:

1) restoring full federal funding for some 300,000 abortions per year

2) providing full federal funding for all abortions

Gravatar I would submit that the important section is:

"as it effects our public activities."

Perhaps, but he covered the stuff that you mentioned in the bullet points below.

Maybe he can elaborate what he meant.

Gravatar We have to recognize that Obama is not a "liberal," he is a Marxist.

He was raised on it, cultivated the ideology in college and built his local political career on it. Black Liberation Theology is now the order of the day.

Accordingly we can expect the collapse of our economy, the rise of coercive institutions, various suppression and even violence against people who vocally oppose the regime.

The Catholic Church will come under attack. The question is whether or not our Church leaders are willing to get blood on their shirts like Chaput. That guy is my hero.

Gravatar I do think people are overheating a bit here. A "sea change"? I don't think so. In 1994, then again in 2002, it appeared that conservatives had taken over Washington and would rule for the foreseeable future. Well, that future wasn't so hard to see, was it?

Now the democrats are in charge, and they will probably do the same thing the republicans did: abuse their power and try to overreach on their mandate. There will then be a reaction, and assuming the republicans aren't completely stupid about it (not necessarily a good assumption to make), they will return to some level of power in 2010 or 2012. This is how things work in our political system.

Not that I don't think there will be serious negative consequences to an Obama presidency; I just don't think that it will be as damaging to Catholic causes as some here seem to think.

Gravatar There is no moral equivalence between conservatives and liberals "abusing their power". There was no Conservative push to purge the airwaves of liberal speech. There was no Conservative push to ram rod conservative ideology onto highschool and college kids via federalized 'volunteer' programs. There was no Conservative driven redistribution program, no intimidation of whole industries, no purges of the Clinton appointees in the State Department, CIA, Pentagon, or general civil service.

We don't treat them as they treat us.

Gravatar Yes, Columcille, Chaput is my hero, too. Please God, may we have more like him!

Gravatar You are so right, John. Let's see what happens now.

Gravatar CBL, the Boy Scouts have been under attack for the last 20 years under these three issues: God (Atheism), Gays, and Gals (Our proverbial 3Gs). Now it is not true that the BSA would be forced to close. However, it is always possible that a Court (and here is where an Obama appointment comes into play) will rule that the BSA MUST NOT discriminate in its membership against any of these three interest groups. When this occurs, what the BSA has been for its almost 100 years of existence will cease.

Gravatar What a disgrace the McCain campaign is.

His thuggish staffers are now trying to destroy Palin.

I hope the GOP destroys itself. They deserve it for going against their conservative principles all these years.

And shame on all you Catholics who put the GOP before common sense the Church. You know who you are.

Gravatar We need to start getting behind true pro-life candidates such as Brownback and Keyes immediately, not wait for the next presidential election.

Gravatar I agree, anonymous, about the attacks on Palin. If McCain does not come out and tell them to stop I will lose all respect for him.

Gravatar Joseph,
How about Bobby Jindahl?

Gravatar Just heard about him. We need to collect the names of all of those politicians and then start plugging them with our support... now. We need to give these guys the support they need well before the next election. The ideal is to "flood the market" in the next primary with truly pro-life candidates.

Gravatar "...repeal of the Hyde Amendment"

It would be nice if you had some clue as to what you were talking about before you do.

There is no issue of "repeal" of the Hyde Amendment. The Hyde Amendment is a rider on the Labor/HHS appropriations bill. It last one year and expires automatically.

In 6 years of controlling both the White House and Congress, the GOP didn't even make an attempt to put this provision in permanent legislation.

And in the two approprations bills passed by the Democrats, they have included the Hyde Amendment in the Chairman's mark.

I think CUA has some undergraduate poli sci courses in the legislative process. You might want to audit one.

Gravatar Katherine,

Are you ready to admit you lied when you said David Duke endorsed John McCain? You stated that on your blog but, when given evidence to the contrary, you refused to retract your statement. Now that Barry has won are you finally ready to tell the truth?

Gravatar Come on, Kate, fess up. You can so smugly correct Thomas for making an HONEST mistake. However, you tell lies.

Gravatar Regarding FOCA: To prevent this getting to President (Elect) Obama's desk it has to be stopped through the House of Representatives and Congress. I've already sent an email to my State Rep and my Congressman (well, Congressman and Congresswoman). National Right to Life's website has a good form letter to send to your reps. I've already gotten a response from all three and they are all opposing this if it ever hits the floor. Go Texas!
