I think the US bishops should purchase Arby's, or Long John Silver's, and maybe Steak & Shake.

Actually, this team is not eligible for the World Cup since it is not a national team. It is a league team just like our US MLS teams or the English Premier League teams. I do like the idea of a team's owners insisting on good behavior from both players and fans. It would be very hard to find an American sports team that would comply with such requirements. However, there is support for Catholic values in sports from Catholic Athletes for Christ.

I'm not entirely sure how one expresses intolerance in a soccer match, though. I saw a good bit of uncouth stuff reffing soccer, but I never saw a foul that constituted a hate crime.

Next on the Catholic wishlist: a hockey team, a tropical island resort, and a car company.

Hockey team? I nominate the Boston Bruins. They really need a lot of prayers . . .

Let's not get carried away on a hockey team. It would literally take an act of God to save the NHL.

there is tons of racism in european soccer, especially towards black players. Damarcus Beasley, a US player currently in Scotland, has received taunts from not a few opposing fans. The soccer teams in Europe actually have a lot of control how their fans act, so if this team can crack down on this and promote on the field sportsmanship, this is awesome.
