I would laugh, but they're not joking.

Gravatar Or try this one:

Going to a bookstore here in Denver, finding zero available copies of Archbishop Chaput's book, but multiple piles of Joe Biden's.

Wait, no, that one's real too...

Gravatar I'm going to go with David on this one. It's the old adage of sad but true...

Gravatar Totally understandable about the absence of MSM coverage. First, it's now in All Sarah All The Time mode. Next, it's hard for most reporters to get a handle on the story- just some old white guy in a kerfuffle with a bunch of old white guys in dresses, to them. It doesn't fit the usual template involving intra-Catholic battles- Aggrieved But Noble Dissenter (whackjob theologian, wymynpriests, etc.) Vs. Nasty Old White Guys in Dresses. They view it the same way as any story about your kid's home run winning the Little League game. You're proud as punch. Most of the world couldn't care less.

Gravatar I'm not sure what's going on. It was on Foxnews.com's site for a little while--the AP story, which was seriously flawed. Then it was gone. My guess is that it's not especially important to the general public, and the story didn't get clicked on much, so they replaced it with something more "interesting."

Remember, it's much more important to us than it is to everyone else.

Also, it is significant that this was also the mainstream media's chance to (try and) make the Church look ignorant and out of touch, yet they didn't bite. "Radical bishops intrude on election" or something.

Everyone's quiet about it. It's Palin's time, I guess. Even Obama's campaigning against her rather than McCain.

Gravatar Well, maybe it's our job to make the story known to the media, for example sending emails to MSNBC and CNN to tell them about it and ask them why they didn't report it...

Gravatar Here the copy that I wrote to Msnbc at this adress letters@msnbc.com :

Hello!
I am pretty surprised that your network did not make any reference to the official response of the Catholic bishops to the declaration of Senator Biden on your show "Meet the press" last Sunday.
The text of this declaration can be found here:
http://usccb.org/comm/archives/2...08/08- 129.shtml
and the AP release:
http://apnews.myway.com/article/.../ D933GK981.html

I hope this is just a omission...that will be corrected...

Sincerely

Benoit Meyrieux

Gravatar My theory is that after ms. Nancy, they(the press) saw how hard and strong the response was , so they didnt want to " go through that again" so they are ignoring it. Why help everone see that abortion is killing innocent life ? Similar thing happened with Russert's and Snow's death. Russert (from what I have read ) was a closet pro-choice-er and Snow was a convert faithful to Catholicism. The media covered Russert as if he was a national hero, and Snow just was a by line (as it were). Just the way things go down "to sell newspapers".

Gravatar Jeff Miller commented at The Deacon's Bench:

"The USCCB statement has met with almost a total news blackout so far from the media. There is one AP story and a Dallas Morning News one. Pretty much all the coverage is on blogs."

Deacon Greg Kandra, who works at CBS News, responded:

"I can understand why. It's dry. It came out late yesterday. Then they issued a revised version. And it was still dry.

It also would have helped if they'd offered a bishop or two for an interview. And if they knew how to engage the media and aggressively put forward their points.

The media feeds on conflict, drama, color and character. A piece of paper like that doesn't cut it."
