Gravatar You have to realize that the Canadian Human Rights Commission holds no legal jurisdiction. It is simply a place where people go to complain. The problem is in the fact that the CHRC thinks it has that jurisdiction. It is simply a place people go to complain.

The problem I think that will happen here in Canada (I live in Victoria, perhaps the most liberal place in Canada) is that things like the CHRC will claim "rights" to having jurisdiction over cases.

Of course, we do have juridical and legal problems as well. The idea of precedence in law is unfortunately taking a toll on our legal system and we have a law that pretty much states that it is illegal to speak out against homosexuality; to do so would be a hate crime. If that is the case, then the Bible is hate literature. They are not enacting this law in full force because of the ramifications that would fall from that, but slowly and surely, radical-leftists are finding ways to get rid of the remnants of the religious mentality in this country. And that is what we have to fear.

I am entering Seminary next year for my Diocese and I will not be surprised if, within the first 20 years of my priesthood, that I will have to go to jail for what I believe; we are preparing ourselves for persecution here in Canada.

Gravatar Half (more?) of the clergy in Canada will find it difficult to 'stand up'. They haven't been 'standing up' for the faith in Canada for 30 years. The new priests and Bishops in the Catholic church are slowly making a change for Catholics, but if you want to know WHY the population is so complacent in the face of the deconstruction of our Christian culture, the clergy have played a major role. The CCCB publication the 'Catholic Register' has also had problems 'standing up'. The 'Insight' has been a reliable source of authentic Catholic discussion. Hopefully they will withstand this assault, and not be put under by the enormous costs that affect victims of HRC complaints.

Gravatar What happens in Canada when homosexual activists create a tone of extreme hatred and contempt of the Church? Anything? Or is "hate crime" legislation a one-way street? It's OK for some to promote hatred and contempt but not for others to merely 'beg to differ'?

OK for them to howl, rant, and rave...but not for others to say "this howling, ranting, and raving is misdirected, based on misunderstandings, and ultimately harmful to the howler, ranter, and raver"?

Operation Rescue's idea - to gather so many people that the local police can't possibly arrest them all - might work up North. When dealing with bully tactics there's safety in numbers.
